Wafloy

Pros:

What started as an afterthought, bagger-only visit turned into a pleasant surprise and a fun round.
- This is a relatively simple layout. There are very few obstacles to deal with throughout the round. Yet, it's good.
- When all else fails, throw in a little elevation. If that's not enough, throw in scenic backdrops. Mountains are a good start.
- #1 is a simple uphill, throw between a couple trees layout. Start your round with a birdie. #3 – 5 play down, up, and down the same field. Lots of room to air out some throws here.
- #6 was a creative layout. Blind tee shot, slight dogleg right. 306 feet. Relatively level shot for the first two-thirds before going downhill towards the basket. Just know from the tees that you're aiming towards the tennis courts.
- #7 is a fun hole. 477 feet and downhill. Big field to hit with your tee shot. Three-quarters of the way downfield, the hole takes a turn right. You're throwing over rocks to a basket with a small pond as a backdrop. Fun and scenic makes this the course's signature hole.
- #9 is a simple, slight uphill closing hole. The walk across the bridge to the tee, and the creek on the left side, makes this a nice closing hole. If that's not enough, maybe you'll be satisfied with the running water behind the hole.

Cons:

Course isn't always available. You have to call in advance to get approval.
- Navigation isn't the greatest. Use the UDisc app. There are painted yellow boards in the ground marking the tees.
- I couldn't find a tee marker for #2. Nothing in the ground anywhere close to where UDisc says the tee should be. Otherwise, the remaining 8 are where they should be.
- Dirt/grass tees. Even in February, I had zero issue. But, I know some people do. So take it for what it's worth.
- Be aware of tricky/awkward transitions. For example, just left of #1's basket is a tee marker. I realize quickly, this is #4's tee. Without UDisc, it's also easy to go from #6's basket to #8's tee as that's the most visible.
- Even if you are staying here, I'm not sure how accessible the course would be if the resort is full(ish). For starters, it might be hard to throw across the park road on #8.

Other Thoughts:

Wafloy is a simple, yet surprisingly, decent layout. Compared to Gatlinburg's other course – Mills Park – this one overachieved based on what it had to work with whereas Mills Park was a major let down.
- You need to call in advance to get clearance to play. The phone number is listed both here and on UDisc's course page. They just need to confirm there won't be other events going on and to know there isn't someone trespassing.
- There's a restaurant here as well. Didn't eat there. But did have one local I came across downtown recommend it.
- The course allows you to be aggressive. Very few obstacles. Risk/reward tilts heavily towards the reward side of things. Just steer clear of buildings and let it rip.
- It's very nice for what it is. Chances are you're playing here while on a trip. Enjoy it as a relaxing round of disc golf.
- Bonus points for the scenery and nice winding flow through the resort. Worth the play while in town.
