Tough Turkey 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 19, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Turkey Hollow is the longer and more challenging of the two courses at Wall Doxey State Park. It also has 20 holes, but a bit more elevation change, and longer average distance than The Jungle course. There are just as many trees, but more mature, piney woods setting. Concrete tees, decent signs, and Discatcher baskets.

I enjoyed the added level of effort to score well on this course in comparison to The Jungle. Kind of open on hole 1, but into the woods all the way after that. There are several fairways that will require a high degree of precision to get close to the basket from the tee. Not quite championship caliber, but more teeth than the other course on site for sure. Still fun, but not as easy.

Liked holes 4, 7, 9, 13, 14, and 20. I was able to get birdies on 9 and 10, and missed two easy putts that should have also been birdies on 12 and 13. I also had some 4's and a 5 on my scorecard.

Cons:

Not free to play, $4 per car for all day access to the State Park.

There are no holes that are amazing or obvious signature holes. Maybe kind of repetitive at times.

Other Thoughts:

I like the way that this course is a little tougher, but not over the top long or difficult. With the extra holes and an entire other course, there is plenty of ground to cover for the money. Facilities are nice, and grounds are well trimmed.

It wasn't an instant addition to the favorite courses list, but a very solid and pretty fun one for certain. Worth a visit at least, one of several decent courses in the region.
