A bit of a miss for a campus course

Reviewed: Played on:May 9, 2022 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Baskets OK
-Quick Play
-Not much interference from other activities

Cons:

-A couple of blocks in grass for tee pad, most sinking into grass
-No signage
-First couple of holes are blind shots with no info
-Area down the middle of the course can get very boggy
-Baskets #6-#8 across the street in another area
-#8 tee is a walk back to near the #7 tee

Other Thoughts:

Wartburg College hosts a passable DGC in the northern part of Waverly, IA. The course wraps around the north end of campus around a small stream, and the volleyball / tennis court areas. 3 of the holes are on the other side of the street near the soccer fields. All of these are short holes with only one over 300'. Holes #1 and #2 have blind tees with both wrapping around some trees. The rest are wide open with only the stream, railroad tracks, or a few trees at the edge of the fairways. #6-#8 play in this other section, wide open with just a few trees. #8 tee is back to the west just a few feet from the #7 tee. Honestly, I started at Hole #9 and I would re-number them as such. Add decent tee pads and signage, maybe figure out something a little different for the 3 in the other section to add to the rating. Otherwise, it is a passable play, better than the other course in town, but there are others not too far away more interesting. Bag it, if you like, but I probably won't play here again.

Could be improved so easily 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2012 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice variety of shots. Baskets are well placed, so that the few trees in the area are in play. For a college campus course, not terrible.

Cons:

Echoing those before me, NO SIGNS! Were they to add simple signs for each hole, I could score this hole much higher.
It took me several hole to figure out that there actually were teepads, (the 3 x 3 landscaping blocks). Not the worst teepads I've played, but difficult to find (could be helped with signs....again). Could not find any teepad for hole 6 at all, even after 2 rounds.

Other Thoughts:

If they put a little work into this course, it could be a nice course for beginners. The distances are "par-able" even for newbs, with challenge from the trees for the more experienced.

What do you do with leftover school property? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 22, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

A couple of interesting shots available

Cons:

No real sense of where the course starts or where it goes.
Inadequate signage.
Natural tees.
One hole is sited a bit close to the street, so overthrown discs will end up on the pavement or hitting a car.

Other Thoughts:

The course mostly travels through the back side of campus, near the railroad tracks.

It was difficult to find the start of the course as it wasn't very close to the parking lot. I'm not sure I found the actual #1 tee. I think I might have started on #2 and hoped to play #1 at the end. It was difficult to find your way around and took at bit of investigative work to locate the next tee, especially once you crossed the street to the other section of the park. I'd love to find a map of the course to see where I got lost.
