Long 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 27, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Close to being a championship course from the longs
Course had 2 tee's per hole (red and blue)
The course does go all over the west side of the park, taking advantage of several unique features in the park.

Cons:

Tee's are NOT marked very well. I had to use UDisc to find several of the blue tee's on the course.
Several of the holes were just long because there was not a lot of trees in that area.

Other Thoughts:

Up and down hills with a lot of long open holes.

I played the blue tee's

Hole one is probably the signature hole, very long hole that crosses the edge of the pond. Key shot is to shoot down long enough to get your upshot over the pond to the basket.

Hole 2 is a decent long hole towards the school, there are a few tree's to catch your discs but the ground was hard enough for me to roll it.

Hole 3 was slightly downhill, with a nice grove of trees on one side of the fairway. The basket is on the side of the hill.

Hole 4 did not have a tee marker at all. The hole throws over the top of the hill (blind shot) and is farther to the left than you think (I didn't walk the hole to find it first)

Hole 5 is a slightly uphill shot with large tree's on both the right and left of your tee box and again near the basket. Long 2 shot hole.

Hole 6 was a fun hole, down the hill and up on the other side. The trees keep you from throwing straight at the basket, you got to keep your drive under them.

hole 7, longer hole over the edge of a hill with the road on the right and behind the basket.

Then a long walk across the circle for hole 8 throwing down the open Valley

Hole 9 throws across the creek and up the side of a large hill. Freaking dogs would not leave us alone from the house near the basket, they followed us, barking for the next 3 holes.

Hole 10 throws down the hill, not a long hole, but very easy to overthrow considering the basket is on the side of the hill.

hole 10A is not on the map here, but you are throwing along the edge of the park, over the hill as you can't see the basket from the tee box. There are a few tree's to knock down your drive.

Hole 10B tees off and throws down the hill with the road on one side and the walking path on the other.

Hole 11, the longest hole on the course throws down, then across the creek with the basket in the V of two creeks coming together.

Hole 12 throws up the side of the hill with the walking path to the right of the basket.

hole 13, might be the shortest hole, but you have the tennis courts on the right, some tree's around the basket and a steep hill behind and to the left of the basket. Best to not go for the ace and just lay up for a 2.

14 is the best 2 oportunity. Downhill shot with pretty much nothing in the way.

15 is one you need to play smart, if you got the arm, make sure you clear the creek, otherwise, go for a 3 and lay up short of the creek. You don't want to be in that mess, trust me.

Hole 16 actually has a good tee box on the side of the hill with the basket down and across the creek. A really fun grip it and rip it hole.

Hole 17 has you teeing off over the edge of the hill to the top.

Hole 18 is another bird opportunity with the basket up under some trees.

In general, this is a long course from the Blue's, I had been playing disc golf all day and was too tired to really have a good round. But when I was done, I did enjoy playing the course.

Would I play here again?

MMM, I do not like long open shots. I feel like those holes are long just because they are open. I am not a big arm guy anymore and don't enjoy courses like that anymore.

If I wanted to play a challenging course, I think I would drive over to the Live Oak Gold course in Ingleside. It is a better championship level course.

But with that said, I would like to play here again, but from the shorter red tee's.

Pros:

This is my closest course. It's got some good distance, blue and red tees; in some cases also white tees. Factoring in the OB and sometimes big time wind and you'll see a wide range of scores. I started scoring well only after I stopped going OB a lot. I recommend this course to anyone in the area. If you are coming down for business, bring your bag and leave yourself some time to play. It's very close to a lot of the port/oil/gas other industry.

Cons:

Trying to imagine playing this for the first time, without a guide, and I imagine it could be tough. The tees are dirt, and in some cases rutted, and probably difficult to see. The city mowers often knock over markers. It'll be a lot easier if you find a local to accompany you. I think it's a fun course and worth the effort; I also think that with the use the park gets, you'd see any signs marking the course get vandalized within weeks. Good asphalt tees with a stencil showing the hole and directions to the next tee would be a huge improvement here.

Pros:

This course is a nice change from Ingleside. 2 sets of tee here and it looks like they are puting in a thrid set. Its pretty wide open but the baskets are pretty well guarded for the most part. Good baskets. The tees are dirt and have ruts in them that sometimes make for akward drives. Elevation is used very well. You have to have a big arm and be able to control it in the wind to score well here. Consistancy is a reward here too.

Cons:

This course is always windy which can make it tricky but makes a good course for wind practice. Navigation can be hard for someone who hasnt been here before. No maps available and for the most part there arent to many locals there during the week so be patient. Cant play over be 3's fairway after school, kids EVERYWHERE! Hot and its a long walk once you get started. Tee signs are just numbers with no pic of the hole. The pond on 1 is gross.

Other Thoughts:

I like this course alot but its kind out of the way. I would much rather play Ingleside if you have only one course to play(heard from locals Inglesides getting another 18). Bugs and moles all over the course.

Go long, pack sandwidges, bring water 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 28, 2008 Played the course:once

Pros:

A very well kept 20 hole course in a public park. Creeks and lakes in play with an excellent mix of length and multiple tees on each hole. Some nicely protected baskets and some elevated tees for going big. This course makes excellent use of the park and features especially as there is a limited amount of foliage.

Cons:

It is a wide open course and for my tastes not nearly enough danger. If you shank it you should still expect to par on most holes. Its long but its not really difficult. Lacks some incline drives, and tight wooded holes.

Other Thoughts:

The 20 holes make for a good long round. Take DEET with you, and definitely some sustenance, as well as mucho agua!

A very enjoyable course, with something for all levels of golfers, that is probably the best in Corpus Christi.

Check the events schedule for the course as it is unavaliable for play during cross country events.

Concrete tees should be in soon as well as a 21st hole!

Get in touch with 3rd Coast Disc Golf, the're legends and they will show you around.
