Pros:
To quote earlier reviewer, Chained Evil, "Accuracy is the key here." Quite simply, if you aren't accurate off the tee or with your approaches, you won't be able to score well. Now with me being one of the more inaccurate flingers ever to play disc golf, this course handed me my lunch!
Wheatridge Park sits right next to Moundridge High School (Go Wildcats). The course starts right next to the swimming pool which was being readied for the summer season. There's a nice course map here. A picnic structure sits right at the start. The concrete tee pads are on the small side but work just fine here. The tee signs are the old school fiberglass ones which are soooo much fun to break and several of them have been broken. The baskets are the DGA models with the always hard to read numbers.
Granted, the nine holes are pigeonholed into a fairly small but I wonder how much traffic there will ever be here. The holes, although, not that long, demand accuracy. There are several clumping of trees and brush together which, I believe, are used effectively to make this little course much more challenging. Most ever hole has some some design feature where you can quickly screw up your score.
# 1 is only 230' but it's a low tunnel throw. # 2 is 345' with a dogleg but one of the large tree/brush clumping in right in your path. The # 4 basket is strategically placed in the back of a brushy area. # 7 has a small gap between the clumping to throw through.
Cons:
Three of the fiberglass signs are trashed.
I wonder, if in the summer, overflow from the pool users might be a problem.
I really doubt that there would be enough players here as to cause problems.
New players might experience some frustrations with the tight lines.
Other Thoughts:
I think this is a fun, challenging little course. Pretty average in the scheme of things but a nice addition to the town's recreation activities. If your in the area, stop and try it on for size. I believe you'll be pleasantly surprised. And most likely, challenged, as well!
