Brewery DG and an accurate review 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 28, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

The homemade baskets were pretty good, including the unique one on #6.
Brewery and serving caboose right on sight.
Easy to access, just one turn after you exit I40.

Cons:

Only 1 of the 6 holes does NOT cross the parking lots or outdoor seating areas.
I can see all 6 holes only being played under two circumstances, no one is there (before they open) or if it's a DG event, where everyone is watching.

Other Thoughts:

A real neat idea to have a putter only course right there at the Brewery. I've seen it done very well at a few places, where there is enough room to have holes that are away from the brewing, drinking and parking areas, unfortunately, this is not one of those. Even if you would go in cool weather, there is probably always someone outside enjoying their brew with a smoke.
Since several of the baskets are right in the outdoor seating areas, they still could be used for putting practice, but throwing shots from 200' leaves too much chance for injury.
#4 is the only hole away from these areas, and it is grass the whole way.
With all that said, I'm still glad I stopped by. I've read about this "course" on several other trips to Asheville, but couldn't arrange a stop. A real easy course to bag and about the perfect way to end my course bagging day, while my wife was in a conference.
After playing the 4 in the Waynesville/Canton area, I came here for 1 more and have a beer afterwards. I got to play 4 or 5 of the holes and headed inside, through the boxcar to the serving Caboose and made my selection. I was just finishing my beer when the rain, that had been in the forecast for the day, started.
Driving back to the hotel, the rain turned into a monsoon, but I felt safe in my Outback, and completed my first course bagging trip in my new vehicle.
Looking at the only other reviews for this course, the OR was by an account with the same name as the brewery, and has played 1 and posted 1 course review (a 4 rating) for this course. The next reviewer was a little ticked off with that obvious Homer review and gave it a 0, to offset the OR. I feel this 1.5 is about where this course should be.

This is not a 4 star course. Not even remotely close. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 23, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

There are baskets and there is beer.

Those are all of the pros.

Cons:

- The entire property is about the size of 1 and 1/2 suburban backyards. I'm not even joking when I say I can throw a mini further than their "disc golf course" property line extended.

- There are less than 9 "holes"

- The baskets are home made.

- There were infants playing in over half the "fairways" when I tried to play.

- There did not appear to be any tee signs or tee markers.

- Its next to a busy road.

Other Thoughts:

This isn't a real disc golf course. This is a notch above having 2 or 3 practice baskets in your backyard.

I literally pulled into the parking lot, looked around, then left.

I've played plenty of pitch and putt 9 hole courses. Pinewood Elementary, Lowell Elementary, etc. This isn't even close to the level of those courses.

This is not a place you come to play disc golf. This is a place you come to drink beer, where you can practice putts and maybe toss some short approach shots if there aren't little kids around.

Don't get me wrong, this is really cool for what it is. If you wanted to just go out and grab some drinks, its awesome having some baskets to mess around on. But to come here and give you course a 4 star review gave a traveler like me a much different level of expectations. To put a couple of home made baskets in a small lot on the same level of courses like R.L. Smith, Nevin, Knob Hill and Roscoe Ewing is a complete joke.

If I didn't feel lied to as soon as I looked at the property, and it was empty enough I could actually play, and the beer was ok, I'd probably give it 1-2 stars. But as it stands the score needs balanced severely, so I'm going as low as I can.

Trains, Beer, and Disc Golf! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 11, 2017 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Like the title says... There are trains & delicious craft beer. I like to play a full 18 with a few beer breaks in between.

Lot of elevation change and variety (pin placement, water hazards, elevated baskets) for a short course.

Cons:

Some holes on the course intersect with overflow parking. When the taphouse is busy and overflow parking gets filled some holes are not playable.

There are only 6 holes and the course is short. No winged discs (ie. drivers are allowed).

Other Thoughts:

If you play by the rules ie. no drivers, the course is fun and challenging. I like to play it with just my putter to keep things challenging and improve my approach skills.
