Nice course design 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 1, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This course feels like a nice walk in the park. Very good diversity and unique, well-designed holes. A lot of challenging but short holes and a couple open long ones.

Cons:

A lot of people/trails nearby. Pad locations don't always make a ton of sense.

Other Thoughts:

Tends to be quite crowded. One true river hole. Large variety in difficulty relative to par.

Take Me to the River 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 29, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

White River is an excellent course, with nearly all of the features I like to see. You have some heavy woods and technical lines. On the flip side, there are more open holes for power and distance throws. The river lurks near the pin on one hole. Two sets of tees on most holes, and alternate pin placements as well.

The woods and river are beautiful. Heavy rough on a lot of holes, making it very beneficial if you're able to hit the gaps and steer your drives well. The fairways will test your ability to throw drives that go left, right, long and short with precision.

There are trash cans, restrooms, and camping in the summer. I played here on a weeknight, and the course was busy, but not jammed. Finished the 18th hole just before the park closed at dusk.

Cons:

The only thing lacking is any serious distance or major elevation change. Most of the park is pretty flat, with a slight drop on a couple of holes. Every hole is par 3, so I wouldn't call it championship level disc golf.

My dog enjoyed running the woods a bit, but I think a leash rule may have been violated. The river moves faster than he is used to, and if he wasn't triple digits on the scale, he may have been swept away on hole 12.

Other Thoughts:

I was lucky to get to White River in time to finish the entire round. I played Seatac that afternoon, and this was a nice complimentary course with a different style. I tried to play Lake Fenwick first, but it must have had league play or a doubles round starting, because it was packed. Everything worked out for me in the end, as I was able to make the second course in the area with perfect timing.

I would have liked to play a little better though. Much like my round at Seatac, my putting performance was less than stellar. I finished with a 57 (three over par), and that is playing from the short tees. I made birdies on holes 8 and 16, but started slow with bogies on 4 out of the first 7, and hole 13. Had a few drives that bonked off trees, and could not get recovery shots close enough to save pars.

I would strongly recommend White River if you have not played it. Not an instant favorite, but it is very fun. Natural beauty is plentiful, river is indeed white, and the locals are friendly.

Summer Day 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 6, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

Nice location, clear paths. Most holes were marked well. Brushy but not so thick that you can't find your disc. Near the White River which is really nice. Theres a campground here too so it would be fun to camp and play.

Cons:

Strict on the no alcohol rule. During the summer they cut two baskets off of the main course because it's close to the campground area which was confusing but once we figured it out, it was fine.

Other Thoughts:

This isn't at the main Game Farm Park, you have to go down the road a little further and cross the river to the Game Farm Wilderness park. Some guy at the regular game farm park noticed our discs and led us in the right direction.

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 28, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

Some really cool signature holes.Specifically the one down by the river. I understand why it's called white river! Has good change of elevation. Nice benches and Very nice baskets, good mixture of holes and lengths. Backhand/forehand will have you throw multiple different shots. Has a summer and winter layout also pro and am pads

Cons:

Hole 1 can be hard to find.
With having a summer and winter layout, and long & short pads the course can get a little confusing.
Can get crowded quite a bit of players and player traffic when I was there. Helps following locals if you don't know layout however could be slow rounds.
It's got signs just not on the red pads but if you haven't played it before you might get a little confused, or turned around

Other Thoughts:

It's got a carved out duck on the course and is picture worthy for sure. One of the better Washington courses. I have only played the winter layout some holes look super fun on the summer and I'm not sure if it changes the hole numbers that's why I didn't put numbers down but that hole by the river is a very iconic shot

Always a good time playing White River! 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 3, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Benches on nearly every hole.
- Blue (farther tees) and red (closer tees) on every hole.
- Tom is constantly maintaining the course making sure it meets/exceeds people's standards. The baskets are moved fairly consistently through the year it seems. There are a few holes that stay the same but at least half of them get switched around from time to time.
- Restroom at front of park.
- A good amount of shots that go up, down, right, left. It's a course that makes you think but it's nothing too extreme.

Cons:

- Some holes are pretty vulnerable to lose your discs but as long as you know what you are doing (or at least have an idea and are playing with someone else) you should be fine. There are lots of holes with pretty bushy/brushy areas but most courses seem to be fairly heavily wooded and can have the same problem so it's probably not too much of a constantly trying to take care of that problem.
- Be careful throwing on hole 12 (river hole). Don't throw your favorite driver or anything you care about in case it rolls down the hill into the water. It's very easy to try to ace the hole and have your disc float downstream before you can see it.
- Lots of ants on most of the holes but I know Tom has been out there consis

Other Thoughts:

A very nice, manicured, well thought out/designed course. Mark and Tom make sure everything around there is well maintained and up to par with their standards and making sure people want to come back there. If you are in the area, definitely recommended you check this course out! I constantly play there multiple times a week and love it every time.

GREAT course! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 10, 2015 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

This is a great course! Set along the White River, it meanders through some nice old growth woods. Red tees are quite challenging. And then you can take it up a notch and play blues to really test your skills. .... The 1st couple of holes are reasonably tight shots through the trees. Then #'s 3-5 are out in a field (the 'winter' course that is). RHBH works well until #5, at which point you'll need a good sidearm. #6 gets really tight. Serious trees test your skills, but there are nice windows available. (stay right on #6 to make it a lot easier for your approach shot). ...#7 (the 'duck' hole) is pretty straight forward. Watch out for the serious deadfall tree hanging over the red tee (left over from a major storm in Nov.'14). .... #8 will also test your tree avoidance skills! ...Water doesn't get involved until #13. Some people are really afraid of 13, but it is an aceable hole. (just watch out for pedestrians on the path - the only real problem spot on the course, along with #18). ... #14 !!?? In the long position it is a serious par 5!! ..... At #16 the river can come back into play, but usually only for the real long throwers with a very errant 1st shot.

Cons:

It could use more signage. MOST of the paths make this course pretty self explanatory. But #s 14 &16 could use some markers showing the way to the next tee. .... Some of the baskets can be hard to find if you don't know where to look (#3, #6 in particular, #14, and #16 when it's in the long position). ..... The course could use a few more trash cans scattered around. 'Locals' will try and pick up after others, but what is it with IDIOTS that can't fathom the idea that if you pack it in -- you also pack it out? ..... This is definitely a 'partying' course! If you're easily offended by the smell of marijuana then you might not like this course. But then again, if you're offended by it then you're probably playing the wrong sport!

Other Thoughts:

This is a really nice course and you should make it a point to play it. ......... This course DOES GET CROWDED. Play early and not only will you enjoy a terrific course, but you'll also meet some really nice local regulars. ..... FYI - the 1st tee is behind the picnic pavilion.

Home Base 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 29, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

One of the best courses around. The more I play it, the more I love it. Every hole has its own personality. It is as if each is a signature hole.

Cons:

It can get busy, real busy. In the summer you can wait in line forever. Luckily in the winter the course has a stark beauty to it and the lack of foliage makes it much easier to throw and find your discs. Of course, the lack of foliage also makes it so you are going to get soaked, but this is the northwest, deal with it.

Other Thoughts:

I have a few other courses I love around here too, but White River is my home base and the course that made a serious player out of me. It and Mando's will always make me tip my proverbial hat. This is what I love about dolfin'.

Great White Park 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 6, 2013 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This slightly-out-of-the-way course defines and adorns the old-growth riverbottom style. I played the winter layout.
A towering mix of second-growth firs and giant maples/alders provide great shade in summer, and heavy leaf cover on about half the holes in the fall. There's some flattish, open fields on a number of holes, but most of the ground is humpy or sunken, and river rock becomes a good bit of the ground cover on #s 11-16. #s 1-2 and 6-7 have disc-hiding undergrowth lining the fairways.
#1 has all of the above features, and has got to be the toughest 1st hole I've ever seen. #2 is similar but gives you a bit more lane.
#s 3-5 let you air it out on the flattest, grassiest part of the course, but a couple of very full firs require some honest effort.
#s 6-7 give you uneven ground, big trees, big undergrowth and a big RHBH anny.
#s 8-12 have various-shaped lanes through smaller firs and mixed hardwoods, in a flattish, rocky, old highwater river channel.
#13 is a mid-range RH flick along the walking trail cut, to a pin tucked in the 30' pines on a bank that slopes into the river, where the water is deep and swift, and a slip means a dunking.
#s 14-16 again use old rocky river paths for abrupt elevation changes among nice lanes.
#s 17-18 use the fields below the parking lot for some wide-open hucking.
2 tees per hole, with the shorter mostly being rubber instead of cement. Benches on most long tees, trashcans in the lot and the gazebo near #5.

Cons:

Its possible to throw the entire course RHBH, with a couple of big annys on #s 6-7, the exception being #s 13 & 15. I threw a lot of lefty flicks, but managed a par for the round.
Signage was the bare minimum to navigate the course--mostly just little blocks with numbers propped up on the ground. The original signs, of which there are a very few left, were beautifully rendered diagonal-cut rounds of cedar.
Pedestrians can give you a few moments' pause on #s 13 and 17 with the sidewalks so close.

Other Thoughts:

Though this course isn't as readily accessible to I-5 as Fenwick, its well worth the extra 5 miles, so play a few rounds.
Plenty of stores/eateries 1-2 miles before the park.

Home Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 11, 2011 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

1. Awesome Layout - The course flows nicely from hole to hole.

2. Mostly Paved Tees - There are a few that are dirt or mat.

3. Quality Baskets - They are all the same and in good repair.

4. Basket Placement - There are several pin positions on most holes.

5. Friendly Players - Most will let a solo or fast two-some play through.

6. Terrain - Varies from hole to hole so you never get bored. There is a nice variety of paths to the basket also, so even experienced players with face challenges.

Cons:

1. Busy - Which really isn't a con so much. It's nice to see the course get used and meet new people to play with. The only thing that could speed things up is breaking up some larger groups, but that really isn't a dig at the course itself.

2. Basket Visibility - There is an orange stripe around the pole, but sometimes they can almost be impossible to see even from close up, depending on the lighting conditions. It would be nice to see the baskets painted some sort of bright color. Small peeve though, it is easier once you've played there before but can still mess with you if they move the basket. :)

3. Markers - Several of the holes are well marked, but others are missing markings to direct you to tee boxes. This is a minor issue though. Most are not hard to find. A few tee boxes are on the paved walking path, which aren't marked all that well if you haven't played at WR before. Which leads me to my next con.

4. Pedestrians - I realize this is a multi-use park, but the tee boxes on the path can be hazardous for pedestrians and sometime they don't know they are in the way. There was a guy hanging out with his family and dogs around the bend on 18 and I warned him that people would be throwing blind from around the corner on the blue tees. He said we're fine. I said OK, but when they hit you it's going to hurt like hell. Never did find out if someone nailed him or not. :)

Other Thoughts:

Over-all I rated this course excellent, because of the variety of shots you have to master to do well. The layout is superb and interesting. I play here pretty much every day and have yet to be bored. I would say this is one of the premier courses in south king county. The only thing keeping me from rating this 5 discs are the few cons I posted, but they are far outweighed by the fun to be had on this course.

No complaints here 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 20, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

This course is excellent. You can play from pro or am tees, and these often give you very different looks. Sometimes you hit holes like hole 3 where the only difference is the length, but overall the red and blue tees add to the experience of the course without making it more confusing. There's a nice variety of holes here that will challenge every aspect of your game. The wooded holes don't get too overgrown either, so you (hopefully) won't spend too much time searching for your disc.

Cons:

The signs at the tee pads are falling apart. They're attractive and unique, but need some TLC. That's really all I can call a con though.

Other Thoughts:

I've only played the winter layout. I get the need for a different layout in summer, but it's kind of a bad idea. I know I scream words that kids probably shouldn't here exploding out of the woods more often than I should, and who wants to watch their mouth while playing disc golf? But having two layouts is way better than shutting down one of the best courses in the area for three prime months. Don't forget to stop by Mando's while you're in town. It's just as impossible to play White River without shopping for discs as it is to play Lakewood, SeaTac, or Terrace Creek.

Nice and Quiet course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 2, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Pro and Am tee pads, Summer course set up and a winter course set up, multiple pin locations, wide variety of shot selection, very quiet, practice basket, Restrooms near parking lot, free, very close to town and friendly locals that encourage and practice course etiquette.

Cons:

Tee signs on # 6 say #8, tee signs for #7 is log 9, after hole #6 go right log says #9 though, Hole # 11 tee sign says log #12, rubber pads on #14,4, Tee pad for #10 is on the path and not clearly marked. Some tee signs do not offer current info for the hole or may be missing.
Some tee pads on the red course are natural and tend to allow water to puddle over it making you to throw from the side of the pads

Other Thoughts:

I mentioned that some tee signs do not correspond to the holes, but if you follow the "next tee signs" and disregard, the log signs at the tee pads. This course has a small parking lot but seems to have a few parking spots available every time, giving the impression of a crowded course. After you finish hole #1 you quickly step inside a thick lush green mystic world with a touch of serenity to the game. You will encounter many obstacles, tunnels, big arm drives, technical throws, and elevation changes. The red course offers a completely different game compared to the blue, both bringing out your A-game. One time playing this course, I literally have only heard the footsteps of joggers faintly over the sound of the river nearby! The locals take pride in their course and have posted a sign frowning on those that litter and encourage packing it out. I stumbled across a show on TV that was offering a hole-by-hole description of the course layout. It was very thorough with the summer and winter layout and offered advice to what type of throw and disc to use for each hole!

A must play 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 25, 2010 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

There are a variety of open shots, wooded shots, good for left handers and right handers equally, and water does come into play on a hole as well. There are some OB lines (walking paths), and some mandatories.
There are some black markers that indicate where the basket is located, so when you are teeing off look for a black marker to give you a generally idea where the basket is.
You can play from two different teepads, blue and red. Red is a little shorter course but does offer a different shot all together on some holes.
There is also a nice practice basket.

Cons:

Ok, there is a winter course and a summer course and sometimes it can be confusing when you are looking at hole numbers. Also, one hole is kinda rediculous, too many trees in the way, maybe if they just got rid of one sappling on a hole it would be more legit. Other than that though not much in the cons, maybe better signage from tee to tee and on the box (but it isn't that bad)

Other Thoughts:

This is a public park so be watchful for pedestrians. Nice park and nice course, go check it out!

Growing on me. 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 10, 2009 Played the course:once

Pros:

A beautiful course along the white river in Auburn. Easy to find your way around. For the most part they are well designed holes with birdie opportunities that can easily turn into a bogie, plus great hole variety. Plenty of parking, even restrooms and a water fountain.

Cons:

A couple of holes have very wooded fairways ( I spent about 15min looking for a disc in the middle of the fairway on hole #5). IMO hole #13 is bad and should be moved. They have you throwing at a fairway that runs right along the river walking path. and then the basket is right up against the disc eating white river.
You also have watch out for pedestrians on holes #1 and #17

Other Thoughts:

I Don't know if this is a Pro or Con, but they move the baskets around constantly. I've played here about 5 times with 3 different basket/hole layouts. I guess its a Pro because you get more variety, but its frustrating to walk up to your disc in the fairway and realize you just threw the wrong direction or the basket is not there.
I didn't like this course the first time I played it. But now it's one of my Favorites.

Pros:

Beautiful course - well balanced between technical (shorter - wooded or obstacle) holes and distance holes. Concrete pads are nice, and the course is VERY well signed and maintained. You can actually find you way to the next hole without a guide... what a concept!

Cons:

Can be very crowded on nice days.

Other Thoughts:

Others have commented on the wooded holes being tight. They certainly are... but that is what makes them challenging. This is a great course for intermediate and advanced players. Beginners should stick to Riverside, Redmond, or Mineral Park.
