Challenging object course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Apr 13, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

If difficulty is something you're after, this is the course to play in Prescott! If you're hoping to score well here you need to take advantage of every birdie chance because they won't come often unless you're on great current form. Despite this difficulty, it does relent some and offer a few "Ace Runs" ~200ft.

Requires accuracy above all as the fairways (and course) are quite narrow and heavily wooded. The first couple holes have many trees close to the tee area which punishes sloppy releases. In the middle and latter sections of the course, the immediate tree cover off the tee thins out a little and driving distance becomes even more important as the holes lengthen and incorporate a few blind tee shots.

Throughout the course, the elevation available on the hillside is used on almost every hole to provide excitement and challenge. Paying attention to the wind (almost always blowing down the hillside) is very important as it becomes a huge issue when factoring in the elevation.

Signature Hole #8 is a bomber (plays like it's 500ft+!) with a choke point about halfway down the already-narrow fairway. Your approach to the target is blocked by a wall of large boulders about 50ft tall, with the target perched on top. Par on this hole means you played it very well. Birdies are almost non-existent.

Cons:

I maintain the typical object course complaints;

Tee areas are often uneven although clearly defined. When it's dry, they are dusty and silty. Don't even try to play during or after heavy precipitation.

Navigation can be tricky unless you've a keen eye for cairns and other semi-permanent "hints" like ribbons on branches and blasts of spray paint on rocks.

Target trees markings are fading but most are discoverable with at most a few minutes time searching downrange.

No amenities at all aside from a small parking area off Ponderosa Park Rd. Please help keep the area clean!

Other Thoughts:

Like a hike in the woods with a side of disc golf! You will get a workout traversing this course. It isn't too steep or particularly treacherous but if your tee shots aren't accurate you'll be spending a lot of energy retrieving discs.

Signature hole without question is #8 but a few others, namely #s 11, 15, 16, & 17 are quality layouts. It's my opinion that this is the best all-around object course in town.

With proper tee boxes (and maybe some baskets), this course is an easy 4 Discs rating, bordering 4.5. It really is a fun and challenging course that will either beat you down or boost you up! Great for doubles rounds.

White Spar/Murray Pines 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Mar 5, 2014 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

The best of the target courses in the Prescott area(imo), requires distance, technical expertise and stamina. Longer than either School House or Skyline, with just as many trees(if not more), elevation changes and beautiful scenery as any course in Prescott. You'll need just about every shot imaginable if you're to score well.

Cons:

My usual gripes: bad footing on the dirt tee pads, no baskets, some excessive walking between holes, and a bit of overlap/ hazardous placement of tee pads/targets if the course gets too crowded(which it never is).

Other Thoughts:

This course will wear you out if you're not in shape or coming from lower elevations. If you're hoping to play numerous courses in the day, play White Spar first. The second of courses brought to Prescott by the father/son duo of Zach & Nade Murray(Skyline being the first). Thanks boys! If this course had concrete tees and baskets it would be a world class course, imo.
