Pros:
In the heart of a town of about 6,000 people sits the rustic Willard City Park. The disc golf course is intertwined within baseball fields and walking paths, and other typical activities you'd find in a city park.
+ For the most part, the course has great ammentities for a 9-holer. Brand new red, white, and blue Veteran baskets that are probably visable from the International Space Station. Two sets of concrete tee pads on every hole. Just needs permanent tee signs and the ammentities will rival any course around.
+ Plays in and out of the woods with a pretty even mix of heavily wooded and open holes. Enjoyed the holes that started in dense woods and ended in the open. Good variation in distance as well.
+ Doesn't interfere with other activities within the park. Makes a 9-hole loop right back to the parking lot and first tee.
Cons:
- Still needs to be broken in. Lots of trees marked for removal near baskets and tee pads. Poke and pray at the moment on some of the approach shots, and no room for a run up at the tees.
- Many of the tee signs were missing, hopefully permanent signs are coming in the near future.
- The holes that are entirely wooded are pretty unmemorable. Just a straight path carved right to the basket.
- Drainage appears to be a serious issue and there are some areas that are nearly impassable. Several bridges are needed.
- #5's brand new custom color Veteran is broken. Assume it was from a tree or a large branch and not vandalism.
Other Thoughts:
Willard City Park is the first public course installed in Willard and it's pretty solid. It'll deserve an upgrade to a 3.5 when the issues are addressed.
