A great little course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Dec 30, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-very easy to access and play
-quick round (also con)
- good practice for advanced/intermediate players. Good confidence booster for beginners/intermediate players
-pretty, town park setting. Open fields for practicing drives. Playground, walking paths, skate park etc.

Cons:

-very short, 12 hole.
-not the most variety of shots
- needs proper tee pads or at least tee maintence of the natural pads.
- no hole diagrams (not a necessity when you can see the basket and most obstacles on all holes)
-no practice basket
-No trash cans.
- could use a volunteer day to clean up the rough/tee pads, hanging trees limbs

Other Thoughts:

A great little course close to Burlington. Very easy to play with beginners and a nice park to bring the family. It seems like with some work, this will break in to to be a great course. Really hoping they find a way to add another 6 holes or build another course!

Deeeeep Rough n Ready for a change? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 7, 2018 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice Hole 1 raised green.
-SUPER nice 'Camel Feature' on 9. WOW factor.
-Pleasant mowed grass environment
-Good place for Intermediates to work on accuracy
-Quick round in area that needs the course.

Cons:

-Super deep rough close to fairways!
-One intermediate tee. Not rec, advanced or pro friendly
-After #1 Green, totally flat.
-Many holes look and play about the same
-Hikers Bikers crossing through several holes.

Other Thoughts:

NOTE: High hopes that this course will improve greatly. Local land activist Jim McCullough asked me to write the Town of Williston about 2 changes that would really make this a GREAT learners course.

1. As others have noted, the rough is REALLY deep here. See the photos of holes 4 and several others. I suggested a 'First Cut' or maybe even another 'Second Cut' of shorter rough so decent shots only get punished a little and half decent shots get punished a little more. Right now, if you are off a little you are off and searching which is pretty harsh for such an easy course.

2. This is an inherently beginners course that does not have beginner tees. A simple set of Survey Flags or Colored Stakes would do so no expense is involved.

Meanwhile, the current White (or Intermediate) tees are barely adequate for a compact X Step (3 step windup). And there are several holes where you are throwing right next to the hiking trail that runs right through the course.

So for me this a 2 star course with 3 star potential. The eastside of Burlington needs a course but most players would do better to go southside to CVU for now anyway.

Williston DGC 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 1, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Close to Burlington, so if you're in the area its a good play. Nice casual course that isn't time demanding. Well maintained. Not a lot of trees to hit, so getting to the chains is fairly simple.

Cons:

Little elevation change. Doesn't require a large variety of shots. Short holes, no par indications. Playing 12 holes is strange because it is in-between rounds so scoring is tricky.

Needs wider swaths of mowing 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:Aug 4, 2016 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

Local to Burlington
Great for practicing or for beginners, short holes and you can always see the basket from the tee box

Cons:

Not particularly challenging
Only one tee box and it plays like a white.
Very easy to lose a disc in the tall grass next to fairways, many fairways could use a little wider mowing just so that discs arent as easy to lose. A typical round consists of at least one extended period looking for discs in the summer.

Other Thoughts:

With a little less tall grass, this course could easily score higher.

Very good novice course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Nov 8, 2021 Played the course:5+ times

Pros:

- Course appears to be regularly maintained and mowed.
- DISCatcher baskets are new and well mounted.
- Signage is sufficient to navigate the course without a map.
- Compact layout is good for beginners or for a quick practice round.
- Lightly wooded for variety
- Some long grass in the edges, but free of brambles and brush where discs typically get lost.

Cons:

- Only one tee per hole
- Each of the tee areas has a 4x4" wooden beam at the front edge, which prevents a normal follow through for run-up throws, so you need to tee off from a standstill or back up a couple extra paces.

Other Thoughts:

This is a very good beginner course, as it doesn't require a lot of technical throws, and there aren't too many places to get into trouble. Aside from a small knoll for the first green, the course is very flat. All but three holes have a clear view of the basket from the tee.

Fall 2021 Update: The course has been changed to a 9 hole course form the original 12. Two holes were removed entirely and a couple holes were shortened. The old Hole #1 has been redesignated as a practice basket, and the course now starts with what was Hole #2. On the positive side, the dirt tee pads have been replaced with artificial turf, and the 4X4 toe beams have been removed.
