Great tee pads and signage. Lots of baskets- enough for a driving range and several areas of practice baskets.Well manicured fairways, even with heavy trees. This forces you to find a line and stick to it.

It was a little confusing to find hole 1 from the parking lot. Signage for visitors would be helpful. The teepad selector on hole 4(?) was broken and didn't have good instructions- although we did like the idea!

What's up with all the extra baskets? Several warm up putting areas plus a driving range. Why not deploy those into a longer course?I feel bad for Team Oly losing the Yauger Park course. This very much feels like the replacement, for those that played Yauger!

Woodland Creek Community Park is a short yet challenging nine hole course located in Lacey, WA, just north of our state capital. Officially installed in 2013 by Team Oly, this local club installed the state's first DG driving range, and included a massive four person tee pad with multiple distance markers to help players work on proper disc selection. Also installed near the range are two practice baskets, allowing players to work on their short game and putting in between rounds.

Not far from the range players will find a stream, behind the kiosk, with a wooden bridge that leads players toward hole one. Both the first and last hole run parallel to one another and have players throwing in a rather open field with easily avoidable OB on the left of both holes. The rest of the holes are located in a tight to very tight forest and although quite short, are rather challenging. Putters and mids are all that is needed for these holes with perhaps the occasional fairway driver, as the course was designed to reward accuracy over power...with the exception of the first and last hole. An entire round can take about 30-40 minutes when the park is not busy, allowing for multiple rounds whether they be there or in addition to St. Martins Abbey just a couple of miles away.

As others have stated, the tee signs and tee pads are good enough for now but are in dire need of an upgrade sooner than later. The rocks are scattered due to players kicking the rocks away to make that perfect run-up and the tee signs are laminated paper attached to wooden stakes. However, the yellow "next tee" signs are strategically placed making it easy for first timers to get around which was much appreciated.

The largest con on the course is holes one and nine. They are unfortunate but are understandable considering the amount of space that has been provided for the DG course. They are just open field shots that require sheer distance rather than skill. The OB is easily avoidable and puts little pressure on players off the tee. Honestly, I would rather just skip these holes and enjoy holes #2-8 several times over as they are all unique and fun!

Senior Gilberts and Team Oly really did a great job working with the city of Lacey to get this nine hole course installed. After having Yauger Park ripped out from beneath them a few years ago the local scene was left with literally nothing within city limits. With such a great group of guys they deserved better and fortunately their war cries were heard! Now they have two fun nine hole courses within 3 miles of one another, making for a nice round of DG. My hope however is that they eventually get a championship caliber 18 course near our state's capital for all to visit so that the quality of courses in the area are equal to that of the local club. Thank you for all your hard work getting Woodland Creek Community Park installed as it is a great addition to our DG community!

Once you reach the end of the parking lot at Woodland Creek Community Park, past the Senior Center and the Community Center, you are surrounded by a beautiful active recreational complex with picnic areas, restrooms, large expanses of beautiful green lawns, the kiosk with the disc golf map, the practice baskets and the disc golf driving range with it's very own quintuple sized cement tee pad complete with Oly Club logo. The course is NOT HERE. The course is in the southeastern section of the park. It's just a short walk past the kiosk, across the little bridge and across the pretty little creek. The first tee pad is just ahead on the left.

The first and the ninth holes play across this open field with tall grass and no obstacles save for one tree on the ninth. They're mostly long and boring. Holes 2 through 8 are short, wooded and very technical in nature. The tee pads currently consist of just gravel dumped on the forest floor. They are a problem. The tee signs are small laminated ones near the ground. They won't last. I hope more permanent, vandal proof models are coming. There are a few next tee signs and ribbons to help with navigation. Although navigation is fairly intuitive at this time. What would help is for someone to take some bright surveyors tape (PINK or ORANGE) and tape the bottom rung of the basket which points in the direction of the next tee.

Course developers have done a wonderful job of clearing the fairways here at Woodland. The rough is still thick but will get beat down as players search for errant discs.

# 8 stands out to me as my favorite hole. It's just a short (around 215') slight right turn to a basket tucked into a little hollow but it features kind of a naturally pretty fairway. There are several small trees in the middle adding to the overall challenge. Also adding to the challenge is the current basket just peeking out from behind two very large trees.

1) The gravel tee pads need to be defined somehow. First and foremost, they need a front board installed and then ideally, they need to have a 2" x 4" frame built to contain the gravel. On two holes hole, this might be a little more difficult because of the tree roots.

2) Who builds a quintuple sized cement tee pad, complete w/club logo, for your driving range and then dumps loads of gravel for your nine course pads? Seems a little bass ackwards to me.

3) Holes 1 and 9 are long and boring and the long, tall grass will be horrible in wet Washington weather.

4) All the straight tunnel shots might begin to become tedious after a while.

5) I'm concerned that this course might become the target of some vandalism. I hope future improvements are made with that in mind, such as tee signs.

Someone needs to work on the map coordinates for Woodland Creek Community Park. As of this date May, 2013, when you zoom in on the Map Location feature, it shows this course as being in Northern China just east of Mongolia.

Olympia disc golfers needed this course after the closure of Yeager Park. The developers and Chris Gilberts have done a great job of getting this course off the ground and running. With time and a few improvements, I see this course just becoming better and better. Kudos to all who were involved down here.

Woodland Creek Park DGC is right next to a busy playground and lake in the mostly forested area near by. Holes two through Seven offer the most interesting holes and they are the ones located in the woods. Lots of low ceiling throws and plenty of bushes make sure you have to have a good throw in order to get a birdie and punish you when you don't, this makes 250 foot holes fun and challenging. Good course flow and variance between types of shots and a couple of have to be straight throws that I love so much. Also don't forget hidden baskets from the tee pad or surrounded by trees. There are two practice baskets near the parking lot for warming up on as well as a marked out driving range (with five cement tee pads together) for warming up or just seeing how far you can throw. Tee pads are dirt or gravel and do the job just fine. There are lots of little trails leading off so there is a chance of getting lost but most have next tee signs,we only had a problem once and it was an easy fix.

My biggest issue is with the starting and ending holes one and nine. They help loop you through the course I suppose but both are wide open and long (a personal pet peeve combo of mine) with the only thing hindering you from getting a par is staying in bounds which isn't hard to do.

When you drive in go all the way to the end of the road and park you will see the practice baskets. The course starts near the practice baskets, walk South along the concrete trail to find the tee pad (dirt) to your left.Big props to team OLY and Chris Gilberts for getting this done, it makes a good edition to the area and is playable and fun for most skill levels.
