Putter Runs 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jul 31, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

(1.503 Rating) A simple short park style course to learn the game on.
- BEGINNER FRIENDLY - An ideal beginners course with simple obstacles on most holes and some that are obstacle free. Overgrowth is limited to hole (3) and some far fringe tall grasses on hole (6). No water and disc loss potential will be limited to forgetting to pick up. Lots of birdie and par potential for Novice level players.
- TEES - Among the best gravel tees I've ever thrown from. A surprise to me considering the prior review. Almost no pitting despite noticeable use. Very large throwing surfaces with rim boards on all four sides. The shape is trapezoidal measuring 6 feet in the back and 4 feet in front. The lengths very from 10 to 12 feet.
- NAVIGATION - I had zero issues despite no course map on site and only simple numbered pavers at the tees. Most of the baskets are numbered. The course loops around fairly decent and the transitions are moderately intuitive. The navigational aspect was also a surprise considering the prior review. Perhaps it's my experience from playing a hundred plus courses without a map.
- QUICK PLAY - A 20 minute bag for first timers trying to rack up courses.
- MAINTENANCE - The park was well maintained on my appearance. From glancing over the previous reviews, it appears that this is typically the case.

Cons:

Simplistic to a fault
- LACK OF CHALLENGE - This course will be disappointing to higher skilled players looking for a demanding layout. An even par score might only bring an 800 rating. Pretty much no technical challenge. The longest hole is only about 300 feet and several are under 200 feet.
- UNIQUENESS - I threw a putter on 7 of the 9 holes and I rarely throw a putter beyond 235 feet. Every basket is straight ahead, few trees define the fairway edges and the elevation change is no more than 10 feet on any one hole.
- SPACING - The fairways edges are undefined and sort-of jammed together. I personally had no trouble staying on target, but newer players will surely throw into other fairways.
- CHARACTER - The basics of tees, chains and navigation are adequate. Beyond this, there are no course extras or comfort items. Off of the course, there are restrooms, playgrounds and shelters.
- NATURAL BEAUTY - A nice city park, but I could say that about 90 percent of the parks I've been to. I grade all courses on a curve where 2.5 is average beauty. I scored Woodlawn a 1.75 out of 5.

Other Thoughts:

The Woodlawn Union Park course offers the basic elements of the game in a beginner friendly format. Skilled players in the area would only be able to get field practice by playing here. Great however for local families and new players. As for baggers? As always, this is a must play course.

Reviewed: Played on:Oct 4, 2017 Played the course:once

Pros:

I thought the sign that leads into the park was great.
the baskets are in good shape
a few short technical shots
a few shots near the end with a little more distance
clean park with a play area for kids
great place to grow the game for kids and youths
very quick play

Cons:

not to challenging or anything really that stood out
basic park golf with a couple cool greens

Other Thoughts:

I played erin go brah and this one on a windy afternoon and had a lot more fun at erin go brah. this course is just blah for the advanced or intermediate player. a great place for kids tho to learn the game and transition into top tear 18hole coureses.

Very average 9 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 18, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

9 hole course that winds around a big block city park.

Chainstar baskets that caught well, and were in good enough shape. No problems here.

Gravel tee pads, but they were decent. Boxed in trapezoids, that were plenty long enough for a shorter course.

Navigation wasn't too bad, as long as the tee pads aren't covered in snow. More below on this.

The park itself is nice, with large mature trees and the smallest touch of elevation. A decent layout is here, despite a large amount of space to use.

Cons:

No tee signs. I was here with the snow on the ground, and if it weren't for tracks in the snow, I would have never found several of the tee pads. There is a cement block with the hole number on each tee pad, but a post would have been much better.

Not much distance on these holes. Most everything is under 200', with one 300' outlier (hole 8).

Other Thoughts:

If you think of this as a beginner's course, it's not all bad. Shorter, with a smattering of trees and decent tees. Bring your kids, and you won't be disappointed. As the only course in town, however, it leaves a little to be desired.

Unless you're just looking to run aces (I got one here, and I'm not very good), or looking to bag a quick 9, this isn't a course you're going to go out of your way to play. You could definitely to worse, though. This would be a place you could easily play with one or two discs.

Average, short park nine hole 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 8, 2013 Played the course:once

Pros:

Course plays through a well maintained little city park. Park was well taken care of. Navigation was easy to figure out here. The first tee was on the north side of the parking lot next to the big board with disc golf related info on it. The baskets were Mach 5's and were in good shape and caught nicely. The tee pads were gravel with a stone with the hole number painted on them in the back corner of the tee. Apparently these stones used to be in the middle of the tee which would be really dumb. These must've been moved to the back corner of the tees since their reviews. There is very slight elevation around hole 3, or else trees are your main concern here. The course does a pretty solid job of staying away from other park activities as well.

Cons:

The distances here are all very short and easily birdieable. Also the distances are all almost exactly the same. Hole 8 was slightly longer than the rest but not by much. The gravel tees have ruts in them towards the front and seem as if they would collect water after a lot of rain.

Other Thoughts:

All in all this is a very short easy ace run course. Not worth a trip out of your way to play it but is a quick 15 minute round if you're in the area.

Short fairly simple beginners course 2+ years

Reviewed: Updated: Played on:Jun 4, 2011 Played the course:2-4 times

Pros:

1) Baskets are in good shape.

2) Nice small little park, where the rest of the park doesn't really infringe upon the disc golf course.

3) Very beginner friendly because it is so short and the trees don't really make too many of the holes difficult.

Cons:

1) Not very challenging. Simple short straight away holes for the most part.

2) Tee areas have gotten some gravel in place . . . it might be better than dirt but they placed the stone that marked the tees right in the middle. They even framed the tees up with wood to keep the stone in place. All in all the tees are a negative in my opinion even though an effort was made.

3) Again I always say this, being only 9 holes can't make the course bad, but because it is only 9 holes and very much a beginners course I probably won't be back to visit it often, but it is nice for the locals to have a course too.

Other Thoughts:

This was a average little course to play. I made a loop of 5 new courses (for me)starting in Grafton at Lime Kiln, Tendick Nature Park in Saukville, Villa Park in West Bend, then on to Woodlawn in Hartford and Erin go Bragh in Thompson. I would rank this one as #5 out of the 5.

Not much has changed about this course since i was here almost three years ago. I did enjoy seeing my scores have dropped 3-4 shots in that timeframe.
