Field golf is better than no golf, right? 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Sep 17, 2020 Played the course:once

Pros:

-Nice posts with hole number at each tee pad
-Old school DGA (I think Mach 1) baskets with hole number on top of them
-Large railroad ties buried at tee pads indicating where to throw from
-Can be played in around 20 minutes
-Probably never busy
-Parking not far from hole 1 (the red lot)

Cons:

-With the exception of hole 9, it's one wide open field
-Basket 7 was missing
-No distances or course map available at the course
-Rough field grass, ankle rolling is possible
-Little to no elevation change

Other Thoughts:

I had read some pretty harsh reviews of this place and had very low expectations coming in, but it honestly wasn't thaaat bad... just kind of bad. The grass had been mowed semi-recently which definitely helped the cause.

Upon arrival, make sure to look at the Udisc map to get oriented (dgcr map is outdated).

Standing at hole 1, you can see about 8 of the nine holes in the large, flat, open field. After you make it around the field, you actually finish with my favorite hole (9), because the blackberries have grown into the fairway just enough to make it a blind shot and at that point, you'll probably be welcoming to an type of obstacle.

Since the distances varied from about 150' up to 360', I can't really call this beginner friendly, but at the same time, intermediate and advanced players will be bored- unless they just want some field practice.

For being on a college campus, I thought the scenery was lacking big time. Even the school buildings up on the hill behind the course are not all that attractive.

Parking note- I parked in the red parking lot and I'm pretty sure on a typical M-F I would have needed a $5 daily permit, but with Covid and all I had the lot to myself on a Thursday afternoon.

Pros:

Good practice course
Convenient for students
Beautiful views of Mt Hood & Mt. St. Helens

Cons:

No obstacles
Little variety as most holes have little elevation change or scenery change.

Other Thoughts:

The view from the course might be the best part of this course. The course has undergone several changes over the past year or so with new construction at the campus.

The school has said they are planning to develop a new course on surrounding land, expanding to 18 holes.
