Pros:

A backyard course with elevation that makes me glad I don't have to mow it. Marcus has set up a round with no uninteresting holes. They may be a bit out-of-the-ordinary, but none of them can be called boring. Multiple pins can be played from just about any tee, putting replay value very high.

Marking/signage/wayfinding is excellent if you're ok with it being a bit hectic. Everything from brightly painted signs, to mailbox numbers, to cut up license plates are around telling you where to go. Near each basket there will be some sort of sign with arrows pointing the way to the next tee, which is also brightly marked with distances to each pin if there are two available. Combine that with the Udisc map and you should have very little trouble navigating.

Since some of the holes are so short, it was a great move to make several of the greens quite difficult. The elevated pins of 1/7/10/15, 2/14/21, and 18/24 are one. Then trees tightly guard the long pin of 3/9/22, and the one for 4/6. 8/19 is on a hillside, also.

Precision is required to hit all the lines. Hole 1 might look boring, but when you see the arrows and realize it's actually a tight double-mando, you begin to see that you're in for a real challenge. Late gaps to get on 3, 6, and 22, the tunnels you go back and forth through on 3/14/16 and 4/7/15, and challenge off the tee on 17 and 21.

Big, sweeping hyzers are a decent play in several spots. 7 is the biggest one, a right to left on a downhill slope so watch the skips, 2 is a less severe finish around the same clump of trees. 24 plays uphill and over a 2-story kiddie fort, so a towering hyzer is a good line there.

The elevation isn't major, but it's enough to catch you at least once. The pin of 1/7/10/15 is on a slope that will easily skip your disc long if you're not careful, and 8/19's pin is on such a wicked angle that you're better off just setting a drive at the bottom of the hill. The rise in the fairway of 3/14/16/21/22 tests your speed control on the shorter ones, or your power on the longer holes 3 and 14. 9 and 20 tee downhill into a tunnel. 8 and 13 play opposite ways in front of the house with a 7-8ft change each way (8 up, 13 down).

Cons:

The baskets of 13, 20, 7/15 long, and 11/23 have considerable tilt to their trays or chain supports. It can affect putts. 13 and 20 in particular are pretty light on chains, too.

The road lines one whole side of the fairway on 8 and 13. Can't complain much since it pushes the round to 24 holes, but keep an eye out for cars.

For having so many overlapping holes, the course stays out of it's own way except for on hole 20, where the basket of 11/23 sits directly in the fairway. In fact, it's so properly in the fairway that I recorded my first ever black ace on it… appropriately with a Zone.

There is some stuff in a few spots, the kiddie fort on 10/24, the shed on 12/24, some cars in the driveway on 19, and a wheelbarrow on 17. Marcus is good-natured and expects stuff will get hit, but still a bit of a distraction.

Other Thoughts:

Marcus is easy to reach by text. Real nice guy and happy to have people out to his place. I'll have to ask him what happened to Zones 1-5…

You may meet the dog. Very friendly chap and so quiet I didn't even notice there was a dog until hole 10. He's chained near the back porch so shouldn't be in a landing zone for any of your shots.

This round was far more than what I expected going in just by judging the distances on Udisc. The tight lines, big air plays, and difficult greens are a great time and I will most certainly be back for more rounds. You'll be rewarded for good shots multiple times with some of the shorter holes, but then a tree will reach out and hand you a double-bogey. Well worth a stop if you get the chance.
