Movement in top 10

At Idlewild I didn't like the few holes that had winding and/or small island skinny OB + evenly spaced or random trees on the fairway. I think those are two bad ideas combined to make one really bad idea. Even leaving those aside, I felt like overall it was just slightly better than average park style golf. There were a handful of really good holes, but also a bunch of throw away holes.

haha thats funny

i was surprised at moraine by the family vibe and i agree i might feel differently if i didnt go when it was slammed on a saturday afternoon (which is completely my fault)

why did you think idlewild is overrated

i thought iron hill was great too and had a few great pin placements too (course is pretty long tho which wears on the arm especially for noodles like myself) and i personally loved the rocks in the fairways

I agree- the fairways at Iron Hill are super generous. When i first played it a number of years ago Jimi (the designer) asked me what I thought and I told him there was a grand total of 1 more tree i would remove.

so i just watched lake marshall coverage

course looked amazing on film as it did in person

any other info us nerds on here would be interested in hearing

I thought Lake Marshall looked great on coverage too. I can't wait to get there and play those courses. Any word if they will officially change the numbering of the holes on Lions to what was used for this tournament?

Highly unlikely. As more infrastructure is put in place on the other side of the lake from where tournament central was this year things will migrate back over there. All the OB, etc will remain in place for a few weeks for anyone who is interested in playing it as the pros did.

Some LM nerd stuff:
George Washington was born about 15 minutes away from LM- at that point the Hutt family already owned the land where the courses reside through a crown grant from the English monarch.

On the Lair side the berm on which Hole 13's basket resides was an 18th century loading dock for timber.

Owner Gary Hutt had the lake built in the 70's (maybe 80's but i think 70's is correct).

When I first saw the property in 2014 the island used for Holes 1 and 18 had no bridge to it and was an overgrown mess. Gary built the bridge to facilitate disc golf and having his daughter's wedding out there.

The grass fairways of Holes 7,8,9,10,11,and 18 were all pretty much impenetrable thicket at that time.

The Hutt family and everyone associated with Lake Marshall are wonderful people and a pleasure to deal with.

Trey Hamlet deserves much more credit than I do for the design of the courses.

I hope John got his flowers this week from the pros and casual viewers. Curious about the change to new Hole 3! I loved it as the par 4 when it was 16, especially that 2nd shot with OB on the left. But can't argue with delivering the viral moment of the tournament!

I had a lot of concerns going into the event about daylight running out on us due to the time of year and play possibly being slower than normal due to spectators and filming. Shortening that hole was due to those concerns.

As it turned out the course played much faster than I expected due to the presence of our great spotters in so many places.

Player feedback has been overwhelmingly positive. One individual (whose reputation precedes him) deemed the Par 5's as "soft" and proceeded to shoot even on them for the weekend.

Heheh, the most honest feedback of all shows up on the scorecard!

True, and the scores show that the PDGA Par Guidelines would have given par 4 for #18. The other par 5s - while legit - were on the softer, rather than harder, side.

(And #11 should have been a 3.)

Hillcrest is rated 4.89, but only has 14 reviews. Do you think it will get 6 more reviews with the Discmania Open being held there next September? (it's most recent review was 2018)

6 more reviews would put it in the top 10, unless someone gives it a "4" or worse.

Probably depends how Hillcrest survived the hurricane. Anyone heard anything?

I've kept my eyes on Lake Marshall Lions course having played there, is now at 15 reviews and a 4.93. When the Silver Series event was announced less than a year ago and having been played. The course only picked up two more reviews.

I'm kind of eyeing it for a trip sometime next year. :D No official plans yet though.

I am curious (genuinely curious, not trying to start anything)--there seem to be quite a few courses in fairly populated areas (like Lions, not far from DC, Richmond or Tidewater) that struggle to get to the # of reviews needed, but Caliber, which is as far from population centers (besides Spokane) as one can get (and in a generally very low population area of the country) got a high # of reviews very fast.

Even with ALL the publicity Eagles Landing has received, even it only has 6 reviews at present. And only about an hour from St Louis...

What's the secret sauce with Caliber?

I just got the last birth certificate I need for my kids (for some reason three hospitals never got the paperwork done, at the time I didn't think anything of it), so we can all get our passports now, so we will trying to get there in 2023 as well, after doing the NE trip we had to cancel this year because my son had got the flu real bad. Looking forward to adding 4 new states (well provinces) to my played list...

Pasted hillcrest into the course search and it returned nothing rated 4+. How about a link??
