Does anyone ever just have there bag dialed in? There are threads everwhere with people changing discs and companies and molds, does anyone every just stick with a set of discs for longer then a week. I understand about trying new discs and mfgs to try to expand your game but there has to come a point where all the change it affecting your game for the worse and not the better.

i've been throwing the same core discs for 3 yrs....

I played for a few years back in the mid to late 90's and just got back into playing about a year ago. So for me I had to start all over with finding new discs and getting back into decent form. The small fade bag that once housed my cactus cyclone, stiff dx shark, beat banshee, and others was long gone. I'm finally settling down though I've decided on the proD focus as my putter and many others. Only about one or two slots still unsettled. Now if someone has been playing steady for several years and is still swapping out mold after mold then yeah it's a problem and their game will never get consistent until they stick with a few.

I'm at least trying to stick with the same bag. I got to the point where I had too many choices and not enough consistency. Hoping simplicity is the key to improvement.

^^^^^

I feel this is happening all the time

I thought I had my bag dialed in but then I started throwing farther so discs started flying differently and now I have new gaps open that I'm trying to fill.

I think that this is a great topic. I have only been playing for 2 years now but have progressed quickly. I have played both AM 1 and Open tournaments and done well in each. It has taken me a full 2 years of playing to get comfortable with my bag.

I have the core discs that arent going anywhere, Teebird, Buzzz, Destroyer, Ions but up until recently I have really been trying a lot of different molds and plastics out. I think the first thing that clicked for me was the plastic type that I stick to.

If I can get a disc in Champ/Z Glo I am going to throw it. I relized along time back that this was my favorite plastic, I like the consistancy the and the stablity the plastic brings to my game. I think that I will always be trading a few discs in and out of the bag other than my staples but the plastic is not going to change. I have slowed down on trying out new discs and am very happy with my bag the way it is right now, I dont see much coming or going. I do however find myself trying a new disc out for a certian type of shot I might want to make, like overhand or forehand roller. If I think that a certian disc might be a bit better at accomplishing that task then I will generaly give it a try during field practice.

i have had a beast , aviar , roc in the bag for 7 years....i swich in and out depending how im feeling a 11x gazelle ...11x teebird/CEteebird...and CE leo / pro line leo

so for 7 years it has been this list ...

beast
aviar
roc
teebird
leopard
spider
gator
gazelle
viking

I agree with you that too much inconsistency can be bad for your game. I myself have stayed with the same core of discs for a few years now, and noticed my overall game improve. I will admit though. That without the curiosity of something new. I might only be able to take my game so far. That said. I will give a lot of credit to the new Blizzard line adding some serious D to my max drive. I have yet to fully control my 135 Destroyer on every throw, but when i do. Watch out all of those lines i have wanted to go for, but never could. I can see a few less stokes during any given round headed my way! :)

Yeah, but you don't find us on those threads very much.

My bag would be completely set, but for a pond that keeps altering the lineup.

But in the end, I'm in the "It's the archer, not the arrow" camp and, in my case, there aren't any arrows that can make up for the archer's inconsistency.

:doh:I think it's funny when a new disc comes out and half these noobs have it 'in their bag' before they've even thrown it. Or tells you how it flies before they've touched it ...

LOL standstill 400 footers, definitely a good problem to have haha.

I agree though with Roman, my distance is increasing and I am finding certain discs behave much differently with more power.

I have had a few mainstays in my bad now for about two years, those are Ion, Core, Gator, Teebird, Crush, SL.

I thinks its absolutely imperative to stick with one putter, otherwise fresh plastic sometimes gives me a mental edge. If you are confident a disc is going to perform the shot you envision, there is a higher likelihood it will. Confidence in your shot and disc selection go a long way.

I tried an experiment last year and played all of 2011 using just four discs. This experiment was not aimed at improving my game - I was going for a fun factor of just carrying discs in my hand and giving up a bag. The fun factor part worked great but I was surprised to find myself playing the best disc golf of my life.

I'm thinking that there were two reasons for this. First, I really learned what I could do with each of these discs. Second, reducing the level of decision making kept me from second guessing my disc choices so I could focus better on the shot itself.

This sort of minimilism is kind of extreme, but I'd recommend it to anyone looking to improve their game.

Last year's experiment was a Valkyrie, an Eagle, a Roc, and a JK Aviar. This left out a few formerly favorite discs and at the beginning of 2012, I was happy to throw some old favs again. Funny thing though, my scores suffered. So I've gone back to four discs again but I'm using different ones now. Well, except for the Roc.

So yeah, pick the discs that work for you and stick with them awhile. It really is the Indian and not the arrow.

And I'm the fiercest Indian you ever saw. :p

For 6 months I've had just a Katana, Wraith, Kite and Rhyno. But those were the discs I threw most out of my bag anyways. Got a Buzzz and Vibram putter and immediately replaced the Kite/Rhyno. Things are lookin' up!

I have just begun to settle on a few core molds.
Just to get to the point where I have only a few molds in the bag has been a long road for a DiscJunkie.
Currently rocking with:
Rocs
Comets
Wedges
Stratii,
Cheetahs and
JLS's
I've trimmed some molds over the last year and my trim some more.

This year i geared down to a smaller bag so i had to make cuts. The only mold change though was putting in clones in place of avengers&xl's, the clones arent new to me though.
A new challenger came in rotation and a z zone is testing the place of an esp. X preds came back to compliment the clones and ween me off of avengers. Ron Russell comets came in last year once i aquired back ups :)

If i carried more discs i could see a nuke and or flash/undertow/xs type making its way in.
The only mold swap i can foresee is if i lose my esp wasps :/

The middle of my bag is and has been dialed in with the same 5 discs for a few years now. The ends of my bag are still constantly changing. I like to try new discs when they come out and I am working on developing my backhand better, so these areas of my bag still stay on rotation quite a bit.

I absolutely love trying out new discs, but I tend to go back to the same general line-up of discs.
Nuke (esp and cryztal-max weight)
katana (champ-maybe removed and blizz)
beat Z flash
Vibram Trak (new addition, and i LOVE it)
esp flx Predator
Elite X Xpress - turnovers and eventually rollers
Ibex for aggressive approaches where skip is dangerous
Z-Buzzz -
Hornet - overstable mid
Comet - understable mid
Challenger - 2 esp flx for putting and 1 cryztal for drives

The discs that will never leave my bag;
zone,buzzz,teebird,firebird,destroyer.

Everything else is there because i like them but they're not a necessity. The FD is close to being permanent along with the Anode. Also diggin the esp wasp i got but its nothing super special.
