[Innova] DESTROYER destroyers unite!!

I think the demand for star Destroyers has definitely slowed. There are just so many other options now. Stuff like the Zeus, Octane, DD3, you name it. A few years ago the Destroyer was pretty much the only good speed 12 driver out.

just started getting involved with Destroyers. I tried a lot of things but I found a couple pop top star F2's at my PIAS and they are pretty much exactly what I always wanted my distance driver to be. Are the Heimburg one's more overstable?

Found a pop top f2 star at PIAS today that almost feels like the grand royal plastic. Also insanely blue/purple/green swirly. Do yours feel more like regular star?

I'll have to get back to you on that. I really don't throw much innova so it's hard to say but maybe. I might head to a store and feel some other star to see.

'21s are supposed to be OS in general

the '22s have more variation. The blues and blacks tend to be the least stable to my knowledge, with the white and chartreuse being more os. The super stiff early black ones are supposed to be flippy, might also apply to the really stiff blues.

OK that's good information to have. I'll probably wait then to 23 to see what those are like.

I have a star destroyer i found on course that is definitely more slick and possibly a bit less gummy. The new F2's I picked up are far more grippy and a little more gummy. They feel super nice. Not sure if it's exactly like royal or not.

ill have to contradict myself... just got a new chartreuse and a new blue one, the chartreuse appears to have a more understable wing. The blue appears to have an os wing. Will have to throw them soon and see.

Color glow halo (think Halloween glow halo wraiths) is one of the top options on calvins instagram post for his next tour series destroyer. That would be so sick!

As a noodle arm old guy who probably has no business throwing Destroyers, I'm beginning to discover that there might be a place for them in my bag. On a whim, I picked up a light weight G-star with some decent dome and it almost flies like a Shryke. I was also playing with a guy the other day that was throwing a blizzard Destroyer and getting decent flights out of it. I'm not sure I want to buy fifty of them to find three that I like but when spring rolls around and I can get warmer weather and good footing I might dabble with them to see if they'll be able to cover all of my distance shots.

You might also try a 150g star Destroyer with some dome. I've thrown a few of them, and they're good. Some early turn followed by a good late fade. Lots of glide and distance.

Sounds like you might also like the Enigma, if you haven't already tried it.

I started bagging an Enigma last fall. I do like it and I'm sure once the winter is over it will go back in the bag. When there's snow on the ground and the pads are slick and the air is dense I just prefer lighter discs and the Enigmas are hard to find in lighter weights.

I posted here a while back about finding a newer blend F2 star Destroyer that feels much more like the Swedish plastic being produced right now– softer and really grippy. Finally was able to throw it for a few shots and man does this thing BOMB. It's the most literal -1/3 I think I've thrown from an out-of-the-box Destroyer. With a little hyzer it stands up and rides right for a bit, then fights back hard. It's really fun to throw.

Most of the time when I toss Destroyers now it's because I want the huge skip. There's a spot in the bag for sure :)

I find that in cold weather I lose a lot of distance. IDK if it's the air itself, or the fact that I'm too stiff to properly crush anything. All my best distance comes during the summer.

Another underrated lightweight distance bomber is the Sapphire. Slower than a Destroyer, but they will go further than you think for a 10 speed.

I bag one, sometimes two Blizzard Destroyers, and they are absolute bombers. The heavier ones in the 157 - 159 range that are on the stiff side will be your best bet as they'll be the most stable out of the box and have the most workable life. Don't fret about them being meat hooks at first, they'll work in quite fast and get turn and glide pretty quickly.

I do think there is a use for having a max weight meat hook star one though for a utility disc/guaranteed hyzer shot in all wind even for a noddle arm. I keep one of those in the spare bag for extra windy days. Also makes for a great forehand roller disc.

So, having a little more time in with the G-star Destroyer and throwing it alongside one of my Shrykes I am really digging this particular Destroyer. It's kind of like a beefier Shryke but not by much. If I had to stick numbers on it I would say it's close to 12/5/-1.5/2. I might even call it a six glide if such a thing exists.

I've always had multiple molds in the distance driver slot to cover different stabilities. Now it's looking like I might be leaning towards just bagging a few Destroyers instead.

If you're an older, noodle arm player like me and think you have no business throwing a Destroyer I would say don't be afraid to give the G-star a try. It just might surprise you.

The few times I've thrown G* Destroyers they've easily outdistanced regular star Destroyers. G* Destroyers definitely have more glide, a bit more turn, and less fade than regular stars.

IDK how you're managing any sort of decent throwing in this horrid weather.

Honestly, I've been pretty impressed with my winter distance this year. I usually see a noticeable drop off due to all of the typical winter reasons but not seeing huge losses lately for whatever reason.

I think I've been lucky because I've had clear tee pads (mostly playing Adams Hollow and Ultra up in Fort Collins) and I usually try and hit the course early in the morning while everything is still frozen to avoid the mud and slippery conditions.
