Congrats guys. A lot of awesome art. Loved starry night and the End of Evil. DIB was just amazing. Wow good job.

I would be interested in seeing the "Spring Flling" idea happen. Would try to donate something for the prize bank for it.

Bennett thanks for all your work coordinating this.

Calvin was dyed on a pearly white gold line havoc. Still trying to decide whether I want to sell it or throw it. Dyed with a combination of dipping and painting.

We have three winners to choose from my personal dye stash!
I used the random number generator at Random.org, correspoding the artist to the order of finish and eliminating myself, and the winners are(in this order):
mpacker5
DanHoward
S.Cann
Here's a pic of their choices --

Every disc is unthrown. Some have had the stamp or part of it removed, that's it.
Some of them don't have weights on the pics, but most are 170+, a few in the high 160s, just ask if you have a question!
Congrats for now to these three winners -- stay tuned and we'll get the rest of the payout in the air soon!

Maybe I could get double digit votes in a spring try! I really was just proud of myself for sacking up and jumping in with the pros. Great job everybody. Congrats to the winners.

I can't believe yours didn't fare better, I think this is a MASTERFUL dye of Sweet Tooth!

I guess we got a lot of golfers on here who are afraid of clowns or something. :\

Great job Bennett  The anonymous route really kicked A$$, what a great surprise ending!

Teamtapin, loved the starry night, what did you use for the "white" brushstrokes?

I was glad to see the Great Pumpkin get the love, it sent me back to a simpler time and it felt good. That's what art is supposed to do, make you feel something! It got my vote, nicely done S. Cann.

I'll say it a third time, all of the entry's were really amazing. The competitors raised the bar this year, I fully expect that trend will continue!!!!

Bennett, that's really good of you to have added the extra prizes, Thanks! Would that Ion be soft or medium?

Oh and I had 9 of 'em right, the wedding ring was a dead ringer, I also had visited VD's fb page, that had a tiny hint and then got a lucky guess on Ricky Bobby's. Moon's I wasn't sure about only 'cuz the gradient wasn't perfect, but i kinda figured... Missed ND's, very frickin' intricate exacto work there man!

It was a white star disc... I used a crayon and marked all the little dashes then hand painted it... the dye doesn't penetrate the crayon

Thanks Dan... starry nights was done on a white star disc. I used crayon and marked all the dashes then hand painted the disc. The dye doesn't penetrate the crayon.

I was pretty certain it was hand painted, it was the resist I was curious about. I've seen hot glue used and elmers, but I really like the crayon. Nicely done!

I do want to mention that the skullfire entry was a joint effort. Skulboy was kind enough to contribute the skull stencil, I had hoped to do a little better job on my end, the enhancing part!

And I would like to mention the trials and tribulations that went in to that disc. I did a test on an old beat up disc that worked ok but needed some improvements. I didn't get back to it till the Saturday prior to deadline. I had a sweet white star destroyer i was gonna put it on with the star destroyer part of the stamp ghosted. When I put it in it's second marble I put it in the oven, supposed to be at 200 for 5 minutes while I got ready to walk the dog and a get a few throws in. Unfortunately I forgot to turn off the oven before I went out and cooked that disc for 2 hrs! So at 7pm Saturday I realized that I had no disc for the contest. I dug into my stash, found a white star aviar and did my best on sunday morning!

Congrats all! Great entries this year! Dark horses, way to step up to the challenge and get your work recognized.

@guessing, I had 6 figured out but was way wrong on northern because there was no way I thought night of the discing dead was hand cut and usually northern is a great multicolor guy . Bravo sir.

@wedding ring, DOH I didn't even think about that! I better be sure not to have my credit card laying around in the background of my pictures.

@mastodon, this really was an atypical dye for me being a Christian, but I took the commission to practice painting with straight acetone and dye and practicing with shading for the first time without the airbrush. I was terrible at first but eventually got the hang of it. If you look at the small inner horns, that was the last thing I did and it looks the best.

@end of evil, going back to some of my "glass" roots and made a dye for myself. A Crystal buzzz 175g beauty that I through at my park the day after I submitted the picture. It will be my personal thrower unless somebody offers me a ridiculous amount of money.

I also had visited VD's fb page, that had a tiny hint

was it the link to the voters page or was it the old pic showing the white and clear ions?

Mine was a clear Colorless Anode (obviously). Mine actually started as a commissioned dye that i did the artwork for but fell out of touch with the customer. I decided i really liked the design i had created from a painting and dyed it anyway.

I have a lot of the step by step photos or artwork and i would like to put a post together on it at some point.

I know for a fact my art prowess is behind the computer and not with a brush, so i don't think i can beat discs like DIB head to head at their own game. I personally think getting solid color on clear plastic is very difficult, and i wanted to try to create a disc that looked like you could put it in your bag and have it hold up.

a lot of good things from my perspective came out of this competition.

1) i was inspired by some fantastic pieces of art
2) I developed what i think are a few new techniques that i think can take some of our dyes to another level
3) I discovered a few new thickening agents that allow your dye to be much more concentrated (one not so secret but kind of hard to get, the other really easy to get but i bet a secret)
4) i also discovered new dyes that work as well as idye poly and available in more colors (including a green that actually looks green)

this was an excellent competition and i enjoyed it greatly.

WOW! Congrats to everyone! Great job this year!! Some real surprises there and some new names in the mix too. All the dyes were top notch and you can really see how much time and effort went into these things. I had only guessed 4 correctly....totally missed the wedding ring or I would have guessed 5.
I would like to thank Bennett and the guild for running this awesome event. Also huge thanks to everyone who participated and voted. I really feel the need to acknowledge the support of all of the great dye artists here who stepped up and defended my honor when I felt my integrity was being questioned. You guys really know how to make the 'new guy' feel like I fit right in with the group who inspired me and taught me all I know about disc dyeing.
The disc...... DIB was my attempt at taking disc dyeing to a totally painted technique. I wanted to create the feel of a quickly executed intense watercolor type painting. It is on a white GL Saint done totally with paint brushes and Qtips with acetone and powdered dye. The big secret which is responsible for the unexpected color overlaps is nothing more than liquid dish soap added to the mix. The other part of the equation is being able to quickly apply controlled amounts of some thin (acetone) mix and thick (soap) mix at nearly the same time so the ingredients have an opportunity to mix and intermingle and create the artsy blend on the plastic. All I know about dyeing I have learned by reading everything I could here on this site. There are no secret recipes or ratios and ingredients are just things I have seen suggested here. The only missing piece would be my lifelong background in drawing and painting which for me, makes painting almost easier than masking/dipping.... at the very least less time consuming.
I'm still not sure what will become of the disc. As much as I would like to add it to my bag I feel like it could do greater good by being auctioned for a local charity. I have had some people interested and would love to hear from them via PM with a bid. I would probably consider a fair price and then just match it myself to donate to the local food bank.
Again.... conrats to everyone and a huge thank you to all who participated and especially to those of you who have taught and inspired me.
