i picked up one of the concave z zones and absolutely love it and was looking to buy an extra few from dd and noticed that all that have were clear ones. for the same amount of cash they have cryztal and glo zones, and i was curious on if there was any difference in stability between the 3. i'd imagine cryztal would beat in the fastest. right now i'm leaning towards picking up some of the glo zones, but wanted a bit of feedback before i pull the trigger.

I've thrown Z and Cryztal Sparkle

I traded away my Z and have 2 Cryztal Sparkle

great grip
useable
OS

awesome

can't say I noticed too much of a difference in stability between the 2

going back in my memory to some ESPs that I once had...they were a lot more OS
or seemed to be but my technique is perhaps better now

I don't have any experience with the mold. But I wanted to say that IME, Cryztal Z plastic holds up REAL well. The gumminess tends to deflect hits and keeps it from shedding stability quickly. I had a Z Buzzz that beat in real quick(sunken rim) after a couple hard tree trunk hits. But my Cryztal Buzzz has taken tons of hits like those and shows hardly any wear...

I bet a Cryztal Zone would be real nice!

I've thrown ESP, Pro D, Z, and Glo Z.

All of them were concave but the Z. It was far and away the least overstable of the bunch. It flew more like my seasoned D than my D did when new. The Glo Z is very beefy despite only being slightly concave.

I like the Zone because it's so beefy and gave the Z (clear/white) a fair shake. It just didn't make the cut.

The zones that are listed as Crystal at DD are not the same as Crystal FLX that LSDiscs and GGGT sells. I have bought multiples of every zone type known to man. Neither of the Z variations have been as overstable as a fresh ESP which is much cheaper.

I guess I should have clarified a little more. If I wiped the Z Zone and Crystal Z Zone stamps off of the two I could not tell the difference. The Crystal FLX is very flexible where as the others are not. I'm not basing this off of fondling a few discs. I have a minimum of 6 of each types and I currently have a Z, a FLX and an ESP in my bag.

Don't lie Chris. We know you've never thrown a Zone in your life! Weren't you the one who started the "Zone is going OOP so buy a bunch to save it" frenzy?

I have a CryZtal Zone that I bought from DD last month. I picked out a nice concave one. It's not as overstable as I was hoping it would be - my friend's flat ESP is noticeably more overstable.

I found not much difference between the Z and Cryztal. The glows are noticably more stable though. Mine is beating in to a great Zone though. Its just taking a while.

I think Discraft should compensate you for your efforts to save one of their molds from extinction. I know that campaign is what made me try them, and I've since built up a supply of backups despite not having a need to replace my first ESP yet.

I also have a bunch of backups that are all still brand new and aching to be thrown... but all I've ever needed is my one ESP Zone. Still flies great, got a couple aces on it, been going about 2 years and doesn't have any significant damage.

If they ever do go OOP I have 7 fresh zones... is it enough?

7 seems like enough. I'm on my second ESP just because I retired my 1st one when I got one dyed with a Punisher War Zone comic cover on it. I've been punishing it ever since.

My midnight z zone is more flexible than my reg z zone and acts more flx to me in bounces/skips. Anyone else notice feel and flight wise?

I think no matter what plastic, the concave ones are more OS. My concave Glo Z is much more beefy than my flat ESP.

Also my "research" is consistent with Hysell's - I fondled a whole box of CryZtal and Elite Z Zones when DD was in town a couple weeks ago and they felt pretty much the same. Get CryZtal FLX if you want a flexy zone, if you prefer stiffer zones find a concave one in your favorite plastic.

thanks Chris! appreciate the in depth breakdown of zone plastics. looks like my next zone purchase will be another ESP.

and probably a glow...

In a panic last night I searched through some stacks and boxes of discs for zones. I only found 48. I touched them all. I'm good for now as long as the letters OOP are not mentioned again.
