The 25th Annual Memorial Championship

I was out all day so I didn't get to watch. Now I am and it seems the audio/video sync is messed up again. Did anyone who watch yesterday notice this?

It's off a second or two, yes. It's way better than a couple days prior when there was a ten second delay. You get to see putts happen for the most part before the announcers give away how they turned out.

So how did everyone feel about Greenwell showing his obvious allegiance to Will/Prodigy during the scorecard fiasco? He was pissed and kept making stupid comments...something like "He's being penalized for not totaling a score that was posted on the leaderboard." He repeated that one a few times....Like we should just ignore rules so his team can get the win? Get Greenwell off this broadcast and find someone without a vested interest in certain players. I vote Billy Crump.

I agree with this and not to say I don't like Dave greenwell as a broadcaster or anything else it just seems it is a conflict of interest type deal because as an owner of a manufacturer he is going to be no doubt biased towards his team as would any of us. There needs to be an unbiased announcer/s for this to be legitimate.

With that said congratulations to Will Schusterick for a great win and to Paul Mcbeth for an unbelievable comeback last round!! I have not had a chance to watch it because I have had a busy weekend but plan to tonight. I watched the live scoring and could not believe the run you made.

Would be great to get someone more knowledgeable about the players(and their discs) as one of the commentators. My favorite disc golf video was one where steve brinster did commentating and was able to fill viewers in on all the discs the players were throwing. It really added alot to the video imo. Barry Shultz has done this(iirc) when he has joined in on dgptv/video broadcasts.

greenwell just shouldn't be on there anymore, and crazy(while a super nice guy) isn't professional at all, and is out of touch with the players. at least Dave knows some players off of the lead card. How bad can you be when its hole 17, and your still talking about ricky keeping it close as hes down by 6 and gregg had already past him long before, as had McBeth by a few. viewers at home with live scoring and twitter open were more informed than them.

Does anyone know what the allegiance to Greenwell and John brooks are with DGPTV? It seems like no one is happy with the combo going on there. I wondered if they have money in it or something.

I can get behind the idea of "neutral" announcers. But if Greenwell is out because of his allegiances to Prodigy, shouldn't Crump also be disqualified because of his Innova sponsorship?

Problem is, in our sport, ALL of the top names have company allegiances of some sort. Practically every player with a 1000 rating has been picked up by one company or another. All the movers and shakers are aligned with particular companies too. It will probably be easier to ask these guys to set aside their allegiances on air than it would be to find "neutral" observers.

"Back in the day" we use to call Dave "Hollywood". And not just behind his back. He really wants to be front and center like this broadcast allows him to be. I agree he needs to be objective but I think it will be difficult to get him to quite the show. I do believe with enough pressure he will see why he needs to stay objective and adjust his on air comments.

A few comments regarding the broadcast:

Yes Dave doing commentary is a huge conflict of interest and while I would hope he would remain neutral, it didn't appear that way. Things like "Will out played him all week" are very opinionated and are just flat out wrong (Will lost 4 strokes - even with the score correct - the last round - and only beat him in 2 rounds of the event). The constant comments about technicalities and such likely could be attributed to Dave thinking it's just a bad rule - in ball golf players don't have to total their cards.

But in the end, our sport is LOADED with conflict of interests. It's what happens when you have a small sport. When I marshal the worlds each year, it sucks making calls on people I'm truly friends with. When I spoke with a former member of team innova who was demoted to a lower tier, he took it personally and told me that "it sucks, because Harold and I are friends."

This is what a small sport deals with over and over. And until we look outside, it's not gonna end.

I'm not sponsored. I'll bite the bullet and do it.

DGPtv's video coverage yesterday was what the coverage should always be. The commentary was awful! And I spent most of the coverage this week with it on Mute. It's the only way to enjoy it. They need to seriously find new commentary. I like Crump, he knows the players well, is mostly neutral, usually seems to know everyone's bag and what they are throwing. He is lively and tends not to ramble on about stupid stuff. My only compliant (and a minor one at that) is the dumb catch phrases, tho i think some are funny.

Where does the notion that we are owed a fair/balanced/neutral/unbiased broadcast come from?

anyone who is willing to call themselves 'crazy' countless times a day.. hell someone that introduces themselves as their nickname should never be in front of a camera.

no one thinks we should be owed anything. Thats you manufacturing that notion.
people would like different commentators.

Crump doesn't have to fill nearly the same amount of downtime than Crazy and Dave did. I doubt he would fare much better.

That said, I like the guy too and wouldn't mind seeing him replace Crazy. I like that he's as passionate about the sport as he is, and I kind of like his catch phrases. I don't want cookie cutter commentators. Since grassroots seems to be the path we're destined to take, we might as well embrace being a little rough around the edges.

Being biased is not necessarily a broadcasting taboo. How many Cowboys games does Troy Aikman cover every season??
