I have never seen this before on a wait list.....especially one we had to pay to get on.I am dang tempted to demand my wait list fee back or raise heck. I am not going to name the tournament or TD but definitely not cool and makes my mad. TD skipped 11 people over.

They could also be sponsors, or have some kind of arrangement with the TD. I agree that it kinda stinks for the other folks that are ahead of them, but sometimes there is more to a story that first appears.

There are many different legitimate reasons why TDs do this that aren't shady. Man up and contact the TD to find out why this was done.

Oftentimes, the TD is trying to altruristic. I had a situation where I was on a waiting list for a tourney because I had just returned from Afghanistan and, while I was there, didn't have time to sign up before it was filled. I contacted the TD and out of the goodness of his heart, he let me play the tourney. I was playing Rec, so I'm not sure if he skipped over anyone for me, but I sure appreciated it.

So sometimes things like that happen. The only thing I don't agree with in your situation is tha tyou had to pay to get on the wait list. That seems pretty fishy to me.

Agreed. I've never heard of having to pay to get on a wait list. Maybe that is the norm in some places, but not here.

Maybe they were in the parking lot the morning of the tourney *waiting* and they lucked out because two people didn't show up and no one one the wait list above them were there.

If you don't get in, is the money refunded? If you do get in, does the money you put up go towards your entry?

no refund apparently goes to payout. didn't realize til after. its only $5...but know its not just $5 if you know what i mean.

The non-refund is not cool, IMHO. On the surface, it seems like a legitimate gripe.

i signed up for a tourney and paid a $5 wait list fee. only upside to this is it's only available online, at least for this tourney. gives non-locals the same chance to get in through the wait list. i may not agree with this approach for the majority of tournaments but some are so popular and fill so quickly that this is actually a feasible and fair means of giving everyone a shot. i'm guessing the non-refunded wait list fees go toward the club or pro purse.

I'm all for fattening the pro purse, as that is what I am trying to get in my pocket. However, I don't think it is right to be taking money from people that can't get into the event. Sponsors are one thing, but taking money from waitlisters just seems wrong.

of course it goes to the pro purse. why on earth would it go to the purse of the division you signed up for? I mean that wouldn't be fair or anything.......

I'll email the TD when it gets a lil closer. I don't want to start any issues if not need be. I will say something regardless though. Just not raise hell about it.

Maybe the TD is just registering people up until that time in a different order and hasn't finished registering everyone yet. Maybe those two people pre-registered by word of mouth 2 months ago. Maybe they are his/her family members/huge donors/veterans. I wouldn't get too worked up about it.

Does the waitlist fee go to DGU, the tournament, or some split between them?

It's a little odd but it's part of the DGU online registration service. It's optional on the part of the TD (who can use it, or not), and the players who can choose to be on the waitlist---and pay---or not, yielding those spots to the people to whom the $5 is worthwhile.

As to the O.P., I'd be curious as to the reason for jumping people on the waitlist. There may well be a good reason, but without knowing it it does seem strange.

I'm sure there are different limitation for each division and as such, 11 folks weren't skipped. 3 MPO and 1 MG1... that doesn't necessarily make it right, but just wanted to be correct on the number of folks skipped.
