Where do you consider the disc golf "Mecca."

I'm not and have never been a Muslim, but my impression of why Mecca is on the bucket list for hundreds of millions of people is not that it is a bunch of great places close together, but that it is one single really super awesome holy place that shines above everything else you would compare it with.

So by comparison, a disc golf "mecca" would have to be one single site that is so clearly better than everywhere else that it has taken on a mythical character, and any disc golfer who knows anything about it has it on their bucket list.

I think it's great that so many people have their own meccas in disc golf. I'd like to visit all of them one of these days.

For me, I consider central/northern CA to be my mecca right now. Sure it's kinda spread out but Dela, Ryan Ranch, GGP and Stafford Lake are all excellent courses on their own with plenty of variety in between on the drive up or down the Left Coast.

Of course, this may change when I get an opportunity to explore more of the East Coast and southern states. I also need to get myself to Portland and Highbridge....hopefully sooner rather than later.

Right. So lets follow this to its natural conclusion. My understanding is Mecca is the place Muslims most associate with the Divine Power of their God, where a Black Rock was sent to Earth.

If Disc Golfers had a single Religious Figure, who would that be?

Answer:

Ken Climo (the ears give it away).

So if our one religious icon would have a place associated with their Divine Power, where would that place be?

Answer: I don't know. BUT I love this video of him hitting a fairway drive
eagle while he says "One Time".

So then the Mecca would be the Genius Hole at Milo McIver State Park Disc Golf Course in Beaverton Oregon. Hallowed Ground. "One Time"

Sounds like another vote for Flyboy!

If the Icon was in Beaverton looking for the genius hole he would have to get in his car and drive about 45 minutes to the east

Not Ed Headrick, inventor of the pole hole, and commonly known as the "father of disc golf"? That would make our "mecca" the original course he installed out in California, I suppose.

havent read through the thread and havent really played outside the southeast but from what i have heard and played i would say .... Charlotte.. DFW.. then for just a single course or experience you cant beat Flyboy

Makes sense to me. Here is the original course he designed.

Or how about where the courses are named after him at the IDGC and Hippodrome?

Look like these could handle masses of Disc Golf disciples better:

Probably a little bias but Greater Cincinnati gets my vote......

Idlewild, Mt. Airy (home of The Nati Disc Golf), Lincoln Ridge, Osage Grove, William Harbin, AJ Jolly, Gulley, Monroe, plus another 20+ courses all within 30 minutes of downtown Cincy

Blockhouse. Can't believe it hasn't been said yet.

Having moved to Charlotte for DG, Charlotte gets my thumbs up (particularly if including Brackett's Bluff). Finally someone mentioned Blockhouse (Sunnyside and Darkside)! Combining them with Hawk Hollow and Loriella (longs) pushes the Spotsylvania (VA) close to the top. Hawk Hollow, although not heavily played (private, working farm--thanks John Biscoe), is close to being one of the best challenges anywhere.

Having one 'Mecca' would royally suck unless you lived near it. Thank our lucky stars there are several options.

If we're going down the "literal definition of Mecca" road....

Isn't the Rochester FDO the oldest disc golf tourney? Meaning, the first time DG wasn't just an event at a larger frisbee comp, but it's own stand-alone event? IDK, I'm seriously curious...

According to my Buzzz with the 2011 RFDO stamp, this year's will be the 40th anniversary??!!
