Best overstable mid

Not confused at all, ME. I own some of the Ace Race protos and have picked them up in stores. There is most definitely a bead. It's why I still carry Wasps. Nice try though, ME.

Feel free to post an actual profile photo if you want to disprove my statement.

why do we care if a disc has a bead or not? If it flies correct, who cares?!? Do people actually feel a bead when they throw? I can't at all.

In the case of the Hornet I absolutely can feel it. It's the reason I don't throw them. I think it's a big deal because some people do/don't like beads. Spreading misinformation does nothing but waste people's time and money.

I have been using a Suspect lately. I found a concave blue one (177g) that took the place of my FLX Drone and Sparkle Zone. Not quite as OS as the Drone, but when powered down, can take the same lines as my Zone. That being said, I have not experienced severe winds with it yet (no more than 10-15mph so far).

Yes, especially on overstable mids where I need a flatter release or on any putter that comes out of a fan grip. For me the bead creates a sensory irritation when it digs across my grip, and whether it truly does or not, I always feel like the bead is going to catch on the meaty part of my fingerpads.

Can you force yourself to get used to it? Sure. I throw Rocs, Ghosts, and Roc3s and they all have beads. I have gotten used to them. But with everything else the bead very much can be the deciding factor whether I throw it or not regardless of how it otherwise flies.

For example, I normally could muddle through a round with my Axis, hitting some amazing shots, but I cannot use it a second round. Either the bead from that disc has irritated my hand enough where it does not sit comfortably in my grip, and thus affecting the throw, or just by throwing so much in general my hand is irritated and the way the Axis bead sits across that irritation makes it too uncomfortable to get a reliable and consistent throw. The last tournament that I seriously threw the Axis, I carded a 960 round for the first time out, but the second round was a horrific disaster at 890, all because I lost all comfort throwing the Axis. I have since switched over to throwing beefy Champ Leopards low to the ground for those same lines and the cleaner release has tremendously helped.

+1

This is why some folks will move to something like the Hornet as an alternative to the Roc or Wasp; nice clean beadless release.

you have no idea what you are talking about.

has a bead dude.

I'll put a suggestion out there I haven't seen thus far: Go buy some Karma. The aptly named Gateway Karma is a fun one to have for a round. It's super stable and always comes back for you..

In all fairness, it is definitely a smaller bead compared to some of the OS mids I have thrown in the past. I can throw the Hornet with little problem, but discs like the Wasp annoy me to all high heaven.

i dont find the obex to be very overstable at all. its a roc clone.

I have thrown a KC pro Roc and an Obex in a field to compare and the Obex was much more overstable. Same weight, both relatively new, Roc would just fly straight the whole time but the Obex had a good healthy fade at the end.

Best overstable Mid? Z Drone. What I use? I use my Zones, hyzer my rocs, and if it's two windy for that I'll use a firebird. I use to never throw a driver under 300 feet unless I really needed to, but into a wind it's hard to always prodict what kind of hyzer flight you'll get into strong headwinds with mids. After playing with guys better than me and seeing them throwing firebirds, Xxx, and Xtremes on short 280-300 hyzers that I would try and use My roc or drone on, and seeing them having more success, I started using firebirds on my lines such as those I realized I didn't need super beefy Mids anymore. That's just my opinion though

Agree^^^. I dont understand why people who dont throw a mold or dont know how to throw a mold can definitively tell other people how THEIR disc flies. aka whoever it was that told me my obexs werent overstable. Maybe not as overstable as some of the discs you throw but that doesnt make it not overstable.

What does "Don't know how to throw a mold" mean? Does the Obex come with instructions?

I have a hornet, it has a bead. It is a "small bead" but obviously it still feels like a thin bead. They could have easily made the disc "beadless" by just blurring the edge between the top of the bead and the rest of the rim, but that would not accomplish anything because it would feel completely identical. Beads are part of so many amazing discs, and many beadless discs feel identical to the way they would if they were beaded instead. If you only like discs with a thick feeling edge on your index finger you are limiting yourself to no end. People who search for beadless discs are crazy. If you were a little more focused on finding which discs are really best for you you would be looking at many other qualities instead, like maybe which discs are actually most congruent with the shots you are trying to achieve. I can understand not liking bigger beads on taller/clunkier discs like gators and putters especially if you forehand them. If you are an average Joe throwing backhand a roc or whatever should feel pretty good in your hand. Why wouldn't it? It is just another disc. Just because a disc feels different/"weird" does not mean it feels bad, open up a little grandpa. Personally I think beads feel great, make discs fly great, help discs come out of your hand a little cleaner BH, and are essential in the bags of almost every professional dics golf player.

While you make a good point Ted, disc comfort plays a big part in finding that "right" disc. If it doesn't feel right, it doesn't matter whether it has the exact flight you want. You'll always have it in the back of your mind that it just isn't right, and that will make a difference when you throw it. Consider this quote a few posts above yours:

Should he just suck it up and throw the Axis since it would serve him better than the Leopard he chose instead?

Also, don't assume that because the pros do it, that you should too. Just because someone is at the top of the sport doesn't mean that those lesser skilled should use the same equipment. Look at McBeth throwing only production molds vs Feldberg seeking out older plastic like 10X Aviars. There is no equipment formula for pros. They all throw what works for them. We should too. We're also lucky that there are so many different molds to allow us to find what works for our games. The top pros are usually sponsored and aren't afforded that luxury.
