Disc Golf in the News

Technically Yes. Most Northern Canadian DG course is in Whitehorse, Yukon

Not in the news, but there was a guy who explained DG to Alex on Jeopardy

Alex: Gabe Gales is from Cincinnati, Ohio. This is a young man who enjoys relaxing. What do you do to relax in your spare time?

Gabe: Well, it's pretty dependent on the season, but it all involves being outside. So, when it's warmer out, you can find me on any body of water --lakes, rivers --fishing, mostly for largemouth bass, smallmouth bass, hybrid bass. And then when the weather's a little colder, it's too cold to fish, so I play a lot of disc golf.

Alex: What is disc golf?

Gabe: So disc golf, or Frisbee golf, is just like regular golf in that you're trying to get an object into a target, only in this case, it's a basket with chains rather than a hole. And it's --I wouldn't say considerably easier, but it is a little easier than ball golf.

Alex: But there's only one hole, only one basket.

Gabe: That's correct. That's right.

Alex: Okay.

Chad Dukes of 106.7 the Fan was talking about disc golf today on his radio show and how awesome it is, and even said he's run some tournaments. He also had a guest reporter from New Orleans covering the Saints and he also plays.

I really enjoyed listening to the interview. I thought the point about accessibility of disc golfers was a great point. I got to throw with Brad Hammock, Snappy Cole, Jon Matlack and a bunch of other great disc golfers at Matt Dollar's GTI this past weekend. In golf, would I, as a mediocre Grandmaster, be able to play with that caliber of golfers, even the Seniors, without paying a boatload of dollars at a Pro-Am?
