Disc golf and beer....why?

As far as the OP, Spanish scientists recently found beer superior in thirst quenching ability to water...

As far as hiking around and throwing discs with a belly full of beer? No bueno.

I like one stout before the round, and a few lagers after. Maybe stop and smell the flowers. This is my recipe for mediocrity.

I have a buddy who plays in our doubles sometimes we do every sunday. He gets blackout drunk every saturday night and barely eats. He basically drinks and poops constantly lol. I got him as my partner one round and by hole 10 he had drank 8 beers and whatever liquor was in another guy's flask. This is 10am on a sunday lol. He was worthless as a partner. Very useful for a laugh and if I had more than a few bucks on the round I would've been upset. This is the type of behavior I think is bad for disc golf but I don't care if someone wants to have a few during a casual round. I like beer. I just don't usually drink while playing.

Most parks don't allow alcohol in them and drinking beer on the course is seen as a slap in the face to parks and rec. Being the president of my local club, it truly does not make sense and adds to the bad rep the game gets from those who don't play. People who cant play golf well or don't play at all end up watching the game out of respect for the sport and it's ethics, not many people feel that for disc golf and that's why we're lacking.

This is not why people don't watch disc golf. The drinking culture in ball golf is much more prevalent in ball golf than in disc golf. It's not uncommon for ball golf courses to have beer girls on the course serving the players.

I play in a softball league on public parks. We tailgate with a lot of beer before and after games. We've had the cops drive by, look at the pile of cans on the ground, and simply tell us the park is closing and it's time to clean up. At least around here, drinking in that kind of setting is not particularly frowned upon, especially if you're being courteous and respectful about it.

So many thongs in a knot over some beer during a GAME of disc golf.

You never shock me DGCR.

I do love beer...and disc golf. It makes sense to put these things together. I'm not one to get DRUNK and play as I'm a bit of a beer snob. I need one or two good brews and that's the perfect amount. More than that is (in my opinion) excessive and it doesn't have a place in a public park. In addition, I don't feel that alcohol has a place at tourneys or any round that has you playing for money. Save the brewskis for casual rounds!

Started playing in college with buddies, so of course we drank. If this was ball golf and half as stuck up/arrogant, I wouldn't be playing to begin with so it doesn't bother be that these types of people frown upon drinking. Also, I don't pull it out in front of children, I conceal it and enjoy it when I can~

I typically have two beers every other round and I can honestly say I play better (udisc stats to prove it). I shoot over 1.5 strokes better on average with beer rounds, mostly just from being relaxed.

Personally I want disc golf to succeed(and it is growing exponentially), but I truly believe one of the biggest problems the game has is stuck up players thinking this is ball golf. Fact is this game is having the most growth in high school/college age people, and drinking is part of the attraction for the college crowd.

If someone is drinking and littering throughout the park, causing issues with other park people, being violent or incoherent that's a whole new issue. Do what you want unless you are negatively impacting someone else, guess it's just how us libertarians think.

To each their own, but to any of you stuck up people crying about beer on the disc golf course, you won't be playing any rounds with me in the future (probably a good thing, so you can keep your money)

Cheers<3

Not sure what kind of beer the OP is drinking but nothing quenches my thirst on a hot summer day like an ice-cold Sculpin IPA.

no offense but if you're drinking your Sculpin ice cold you're missing half of it's goodness. :|

Why does it matter?

I drink beer during a round because it tastes good and relaxes me. Part of why I'm out there is to relax and enjoy being outside. A beer helps that. Anyone who dislikes it needs to evaluate their priorities in life.

I find beer and disc golf to be like regular golf or fishing and beer. It's just sort of the culture to me. I don't like when people get involved with something when it becomes mainstream like skateboarding then bash on the culture that created it because they don't partake in the same activities. You don't have to partake but you should probably respect other people's rights to.

I'll drink it ice-cold on the course just because its from a cooler with ice. We aren't talking about a tasting room or the couch at home.

seriously? somebody always has to be the beer snob, huh?

yes i am a beer snob and i freely admit it. :D

Generally people that drink a lot will play better after a couple beers to relax them, at some point though they will go down hill. I'm all for people drinking in moderation. It's the ones that go overboard who are obnoxious sometimes. Been there myself.

Lime boy needs to chill out. Who cares what other people do as long as they are not treading on you.

Golf courses are mostly on private land and 99% of disc golf courses are on public land, not a good argument there.

Outsiders will never respect the game with the beer and pot cloud hanging over it.

To have fun.. casual rounds.. seems pretty obvious to me.

I can understand not going out of my way to drink, but say when the park has allowed a high end group of retiree's with a BMW motorcycle club a camping event and they get the local brewery to set up a trailer, which was coincidentally right at hole 1, how can I say no? Man that was a great day at the Meadows.

That's a rather broad assumption. Maybe in the Bible Belt, but a lot of courses in county parks allow drinking. 2 out of 3 of my closest 18-holers are in Corps parks. Drinking allowed.
