After watching coverage of the Japan Open and seeing the bands on their baskets, I got to thinking.... Has anybody ever tried vinyl wrapping the yellow band on the discatchers? Seems like it would be easy enough to do.... and would add a little something to the course..... just think of the designs you could make. Also a great idea for sharpied "ace witnessed by------" cover up. :hfive:

They did use wraps on the DISCatchers for the Japan Open.

Wraps were also used in Tulsa, OK at the 2014 US Masters on the Mohawk Courses.

FYI, the red paint on the basket tray is pointing to the next tee.

Great and easy way to award "hole sponsorship" and a course logo. As long as Innova doesn't have any stake at that course. (i.e. donated baskets/etc. would be bad taste to cove up the name of the basket manufacturer who donated them)

Definitely some nice looking stuff up there. Love seeing all of the sweet designs. Figured that the Japan Open was vinyl wraps.

I can do these if anybody needs them. There are a few guys on here that would be able to supply these no problem..... just in case anybody's lookin'.....

What is the life expectancy for these?

Not long, if your familiar with that clanking sound when you putt too high that is... It will wear fast unfortunately. Even bad weather could potentially have an adverse effect. That why they're primarily used for single tournaments and sponsorship, not permanent.

Looks great though. I dig it

dug up photos from the one I designed and applied a few years ago. nothing crazy, got it printed at a local large-format shop. it was vehicle wrap vinyl with the UV-treated inks. but flying robot army..
(obviously wrapped in plastic for display; it was being given away that day)

Nice work, Zam! Love seeing all the work so far on all the baskets.

Out of curiosity, anyone want to post what an 18 hole wrap cost? I know a car wrap is cheaper than a decent paint job for sure.

Got a quote from the local vehicle wrap place. $35 a basket for a 4' x 72' ring. He says it's a 5-10 yr life, with it looking mostly new at 5. It's the same stuff they wrap vehicles with, same ink and coating. Not a bad price.

Bear in mind that mostly-new-at-5-years part is a little different for a vehicle and a basket top. I'm remembering now that I did another basket wrap, just didn't install it -- the practice basket at Kyle/Steeplechase -- it was quite damaged and flaky within a year. Same inks and materials, just more wear and tear on the toppers.

There are gonna be a lot more disc banging off that belt that a wrapped car. We're putting in a course on a University's park and they liked the idea of their name and logo on the baskets. Unfortunately the school colors aren't anything close to the stock colors Innova offers, and doing custom coloring is cost prohibitive to us. 35 a basket much for the vinyl wrap, but I need to get more than a year out of it. I don't think I course will get as much traffic as the one yours is at, but it still concerns me.

Necro-bump!

Has the quality of the vinyl improved over the last handful of years or is it largely the same? The baskets (DisCatcher Pro-24's) I bought for my course are getting long in the tooth as this is the third course they've been installed on. The powder coating is starting to chip off in large chunks.

I'm wanting to wrap the bands with a simple solid color (electric lime green), then put some number stickers on and call it a day. I may add a Hidden Ridge logo at some point in the future. I just don't want to buy, cut, install a bunch of vinyl only for it to start peeling, flaking, or fading within a year.

Last spring I remade some tee signs for a local course using vinyl. I did the graphics and had the local sign shop print them on vinyl. Took them over and installed them myself and almost a year later they look the same as the day I applied them. No fading, no peeling no issues at all even after a cold, snowy Michigan winter.

Had the same concerns as you originally and wondered how often I would need to replace them. I have to say I have been very pleased so far with the results.

Do you happen to recall what brand vinyl you used? 3M, Avery, Vvivid?
