Finnish putting game

1st game scored 186. 2nd game 225. I've played intermittently for 5 years but I'm a terrible putter.

I've tried a gazillion putting techniques but none hold. They all seem to work for a while but then fall apart. Somehow though, halfway through my first round, I just started doing something that worked. I scored 4 in a row from 5m, which is pretty atypical for me, and I was even shooting 60% from 7m. If I work on this, and I'm able to remember the motion that was working for me, my putting game will improve in a jiffy.

Sweet, I will put this on my bookmarks bar to post my scores as I (hopefully) progress!

Just heard from the programmer that the Android-app is nearing completion and entering into alpha testing phase!

Not a long wait anymore!

Love it! any iphone programmers out there??

Cool to hear. I just did my third game and have yet to use the 5m tee. But my best score is a 428, which I missed the highest percent from the 6m tee yet. The longer tees didn't feel that different from each other today. Tomorrow I may do another game, or I may rest for a tourney this weekend. I hope some inside the circle confidence carries into the weekend. I may do a 10 round game for warm up before each round in the tourney...

433 for my first round! I had some real bouts of bad putting mixed in there, but not bad for a baseline. Turns out I'm way better at 7m than anywhere else. I hit 80% from there and didn't get higher than 56% from anywhere else.

I like having a reason to put a little pressure on myself in the backyard. Plus I think I'll look forward to tracking my stats and seeing where I improve. Thanks for putting this together.

Do you have an accessible link to the results sheet?

Love this idea for a game, it totally appeals to the inner geek - if the rain stays away I might try for a first go this lunchtime. I'm expecting about 300 points but I might surprise myself!

The Android app for JYLY (or at least an early-but-somewhat-functional) alpha build for it is finished! But also for you with iPhones or Windows Phones or whatever, take a look at the bottom of this post... ;)

Standard warnings first. I cannot guarantee that this application doesn't mess up your device. I am using it, like I'm using my previous applications and no problems have emerged so far (heck, I should know what it does and I know that it shouldn't mess up anything), but I cannot guarantee anything for your devices. You install it - you take the risk. You mess up your phone with JYLY - your fault. You have been warned.

Now, you need to allow your device to install applications from unknown sources. This is due to the fact that JYLY is distributed and installed via downloadable .apk file. Minimum android version required is 2.3.3.

You can download the .apk for the current build from here

I uploaded a video on youtube for demonstrating the app functionalities.

The version in the video is 0.2.0, current version being 0.2.1. One button was added (WIPE DATA in stats). The button will erase your history in JYLY, so you don't have to wipe app data in application manager.

Now, as an addition I tested the web-app capabilities of JYLY. For those not using Android devices, there's an online browser-based app available at http://jyly.altervista.org/ that should work properly. The functionalities are pretty much the same as with the Android app, with few exeptions - web app needs internet connection and you probably want to prevent your screen auto rotate and lock it to portrait (the app is opimized for portrait operation. it should work just as well with horizontal screen or desktop browser but may look ugly). The history is saved with the web app too, only instead of the JYLY's own data storage, your browser's one.

Happy putting folks!

webpage works and is now bookmarked - brilliant going out for first go of this today with a friend, we'll see how we get on - will you add something for PDGA rating on the webpage - I liked someones previous idea to see how people putt compared to their rating.

At the moment the app is for single player - additional players need to use their own phones and score comparisons need to be made with old-fashioned speech, screen comparison and trash talk. With a single player game only rating you need to know is your own.

I tried to mimic the behavior of the android app in the web as well as I could and since the ardroid app doesn't use internet for anything, the web app doesn't (at least yet) have any online functions - The web page is merely a storage containing the web-app and the browser is basically just access method to it.

That's at least for the current version. I haven't yet decided where to go from this point and what kind of additional features will be added to the app. Multiplayer capabilities could be one branch, and so could some sort of average score vs. rating comparison. Moving averages, data exports, timestamps on rounds... the list goes on. I will write down any suggestions made and try to provide :D

This data is already being collected here: http://goo.gl/forms/RfkMnPKZ6E

Enter your PGDA rating with your score and i will publish some statistics soon.

Great stuff - it sure does ramp the pressure up - started off well and then crumbled towards the end to a 390 as I was on for 500+ at the turn, into a headwind but managed to beat Bruce by 10 points who's one of the countries top players, so that was nice :) ( in his defence he hasn't thrown a disc in months) It pretty much reflected what i knew of my putting that I would make about 50% from 7 8 9 and be near on 100 at 6 (missed 2 from the 15 visits one of those bounced back off another disc already in the chains) no visits to the 5 which was nice.

If i could just stay at 6 meters the whole time I would be 500+ :)

Oh crap I've been playing wrong :( I've been putting from 10m every other round. (10m, make 3, move to 8 and make 3. Move to 10m, make 2, move to 7m, back to 10m)
Disregard my awesome scores, half of the throws were from 10m and I was getting pretty good at those...
The website looks awesome. Too bad it doesn't calculate averages from each spot but at least it spits out the string of numbers to type in. Awesome.

If you refer to the website I posted, it should give you the statistics from each spot in the general section of the stats screen. Also the postgame screen should give you the session and history statistics from each spot relevant to the played round, either normal or long distances. Although, to save space, it gives them in percentages, but the actual successes vs. attempts data is there too waiting to be printed out.

Now that there are few of the websites and apps out, it may be good to clarify which website people are referring to. At least for me, I'm quite keen on getting feedback on the JYLY android and website apps and follow this thread like a hawk. [emoji14]

I threw my fourth and best round yet this morning. 461
I have still not used the 5m tee and my averages are starting to come together. For a while there 8m was my worst consistently, and apparently I am not as good from 6m as I though the first day. I made 95% from 6m the first round and have now averaged over 4 to 86%

The game is really focusing me and giving me a target of where I need practice from, and it makes me practice from these distances.
