What does Disc Golf need?

Looking for opinions here. As someone relatively new to organized disc golf, I feel like as a sport we are missing something. I know some here will merely claim that it is big name sponsors and tv time we are missing, but what do you think? Is it an event? Time? A product? What does disc golf truly need in order to push it into the mainstream where those sponsors will take a look at the sport we all love. Ready, Go.

Spectators. :)

oops, Chuck wins!

Cash flow. I know I would not invest in anything without being able to identify a steady and growing source of revenue.

Disc golf needs people to stop asking what disc golf needs.

I am not convinced the game needs anything. The primary thing I would like to see is far more pay to play courses, with significant fees and upkeep to quality courses across the country.

From a "grow the sport" perspective.....spectators.

I think everyone likes interesting courses, short or long. The problem is finding enough open land close to where tons of people are that is reasonably priced. But say, such land became available. Who is going to buy it and install disc golf courses?

Correct, there's no secret and a lot of players want no growth.
This has been asked often and the cliché that fits here is "Be careful what you ask for".

I agree with most of the above suggestions and will add this: More youth programs. Get it in regular school curriculum and boom.

Organized instruction and team play starting at Elementary School level, preferably sanctioned through schools or other local youth sport organizations.

The sport will be stuck in the pockets of regional/subculture status until we can develop volunteerism, organization and coaching at the youth level.

Which will require a LOT of people deciding to commit time and effort.

Also money.

I partially agree with that. In the 1950s when MLB started to grow they asked what do we need to do and for them the answer was more expansion teams. When the WWF wanted to grow they asked what do we need, and for them the answer was Hulk Hogan/ Hulkamania. So for disc golf i think the same answer exists, however we may have already answered it, and if we have we need people to stop asking the question.

Everyone doesn't like long courses -- only hardcore 22-40 year old men do (plus some outliers), i.e. about 2% of what "disc golf needs".

Personally, I want both types and I'm old.:D

As long as our equipment costs are relatively low, as well as very low or non existent greens fees, it's hard for me to picture where significant investment is going to come from. Who is going to partner with the cheapskate (or maybe spoiled) DGers? We need a Mark Cuban type of person to get hooked who will be willing to pump a bunch of money in the sport without expecting an ROI.

WOW - Someone gets it, or at least part of it. DG desperately needs DG'ers to stop being so incredibly entitled. We should stop thinking we are entitled to massive plots of land in public parks that none else should be allowed to utilize, and we should not have to pay anything to use it. DG desperately needs DG'ers to stop being so mind numbingly cheep. NOTHING is free, and as soon as we are willing to pay to play (not chump change or beer $$) we will see our sport start seeing individuals, and businesses (other than disc & bag companies, and there distributors) invest in our courses, and our sport, with a much more business oriented outlook, thinking that there may be an ROI, and GOD forbid even a profit.
