As a promoter - club president - course designer, I have a large interest in who is out there using the disc golf course. Out of all of the measurable things like league and tournament numbers, I wanted to poll this group to get a sense of the number of casual only players vs organized event players.

A rough idea will allow me and other promoters to say something like this to City X that is considering adding disc golf to their property. "So, for every one league player there are about 10 casual players that do not participate in an organized event, but, do love the sport and play it on a regular basis."

Any other data / links like this would be helpful - prerube-ing is welcome here. Disclaimer: I did do a few searches for something like this with no luck.

I used to play club events. Still haven't played any formal tournaments, Ace Race and trilogy 2 disc challenge don't count. But i've moved away from it.

I'm not where I want to be skill wise, so no point in getting frustrated in front of people when I can just get frustrated by myself

I occasionally play league and non-sanctioned tournaments only.

Just casual rounds for me right now. With family and work obligations, my schedule is way too unpredictable to play consistently in a league setting. I wish I had the time to do so, but it just isn't in the cards for me at the moment.

I try to play all 3 as time allows, and volunteer as an assistant to the local TD at all his tournaments

Option D - Tournies, no leagues. (Due work schedule and dog walking duties)

I don't really have any leagues or tourneys in my town, so it's usually just casual. However I got down to Woodruff WI for a couple doubles leagues at Brandy Lake, and I had a BLAST!

Definitely gonna try and get down there a lot more next season for leagues.

I'm a club president as well. We have started putting a register like you would see at a trail-head for players to sign in. We are trying to collect data to use to promote disc golf to other parks and municipalities. We had 665 people sign in in the last month. Now this data isn't everyone, we're guessing it's about half to 3/4 of players because not everyone is signing in. And it takes a little fuzzy math to get to that # sometimes everyone in a group will sign in and write down 4 people are playing so you need to interpret the sign in book. But it gives you some usage data to help you show other interested parks how many people are using the course.

Mostly casual. But from a course design/promoters point of view my wife and I travel frequently and this travel includes disc golf domestically and foreign.

We both play a handful of usually non-sactioned events every year.

I can appreciate what you're trying to do with the poll, but the results will very likely be skewed since most recreational players won't seek out a website dedicated to disc golf.

That being said, I very rarely play any organized rounds. Maybe one or two leagues a year at best, and maybe a special event.

I play a mix of league and casual rounds. From April through August is a heavy dose of both, but after league ends it is just casual. I did sign up for PDGA next year, so I will hope to get in at least 5-7 local tournaments next year.

Haven't had time or patience for organized DG yet. Thinking when my daughter gets a bit older I'll have more time.

I participate in all of it, but this quote leaps to mind:

A better way to do this would be to hang out at the first tee of a popular local course on a Saturday and ask people the same question.

I would guess that 90-95% of disc golfers fall into the casual category. There are way more chuckers out there with one disc, than serious players with a Grip bag full of discs. And then even most of the serious players don't play tourneys. And none of them are posting on DGCR.
