on his instagram account @paul_mcbeth said "I succeed because im willing to do the things you are not. I will fight against the odds. i will sacrifice. im not shackled by fear, insecurity, or doubt. I feel those emotions--drink them in and then swallow them away to the blackness of hell. im motivated by accomplishment, not pride. pride consumes the weak--kills their heart from within. If i fall-- i will get up. if im beaten--i will return. i will never stop getting better. i will never give up--ever"

what do you think. inspiring or cocky

Maybe a little of both or maybe neither but he sounds like a man driven nonetheless.

Being that it is not an original quote by him I believe it comes across as inspiring. There is no denying that he grinds harder than most others in disc golf. I also look at it like this...when someone is on the top of their game they have the right to say things like this. Its only cocky if they don't back it up. Clean sweeping majors IMO is backing it up.

I think you'll find most elite athletes, and those that dominate their sport, have that in them. Each one would put it in different words, but all dominant athletes are driven the same way.

Not cocky. He has the skills to back up whatever he says.

Just hope he doesn't start believing his own press releases.
Sure sign of impending decline.

I'm a PM fan, admire him...and hoping he stays grounded.

Self motivating for sure and good insight into the mind of a champion.

At the end of the day he is still throwing frisbees in the park like the rest of us, granted at a much higher level.

Your post reminded me of another quote from some Character actor from years past, "No brag, just fact." It was actually a line in a movie and I think the actor was in a lot of westerns. He may have said it in more than 1 movie, kind of like Danny Glover saying "I'm getting too old for this shiz".

Fear is the mind killer. Fear is the little-death that brings total obliteration

Yeah write a book or something. Those posts from famous people etc all over social media are stupid to me.

Wtf do i care? Yes we know.

I didn't catch a single notion of cockiness in that when i read it. Dude is driven and has a fire that not many people have. At his level most days no one is on the same level as him pushing him to do his best so he has to push himself. Even if paul does get cocky it is warranted, he may be the GOAT at our sport, definitely the best player on the planet today.

What does posting online have to do with pushing yourself?

Ive found this weird since facebook required you to have a college email so nothing on mcbeth.

Walter Brennan in a TV Series (1967-1969) called "The Guns of Will Sonnet".

Apologize for the thread drift.

I'd be interested to see the reaction of his competitors if he actually said this to them on the course.

I probably bust out laughing.

"Brah you feelz aiight talking to yourself like that?"

"The blonde might be getting to your head"

I can't say I have ever been afraid of anything on the disc golf course.

Sometimes I'm afraid of water. I can't say it brought total obliteration...just a couple extra strokes and a couple discs that I didn't lose.

DGCR, over analyzing while under delivering - as usual
