I am Almost Done with DG...

I forgot to say - "Golf Is Not A Game of Perfect" is one of my all time favorite books. I can't say enough good things about it.

This is next on my book list. Thanks for the recommendation.

Kinda along the disc down option...

When I was in a slump, I pulled out a Condor I had laying around (pretty much untouched for a couple years) and played one disc rounds with it for a while... turned out I loved that Condor and learned how to throw pretty much any shot with it... The Condor made it into my bag permanently from that point and has become my dominant disc.

Lot to be said about the merits of discing down overall... it even made the game so much more fun and now I like to challenge others to one disc rounds all the time... friggin' love the Condor

Here's a recent pic of me with my Condor...

volunteering to help with course work, club weeklies, and tournaments will be a bigger boost to your DG confidence level then posting an "I quit" thread on the internet. Just say'n.

Reading through this thread makes me wish this planet had an 85% reduction in population.

Throw a round with the Franklin 3 disc set, then throw a second round with your actual discs. You're welcome.

Only 85%? Seems low.

Take a break. I think after about five years of playing quite often I was a little burnt. Tired of the same ole people. The sport that couldn't get respect but I wanted people to respect it none the less. The list keeps going.

For the next ten plus years I would only occasionally play. Always had a bag around but barely got out. And then one day board, very board went out and bought some new discs. And then I stumbled upon a great course in the mountains and got addicted again.

Take your time, you might be complaining about Dg for the rest of your life.

Taking disc golf too seriously seems to be the cause of a lot of the problems being posted in this thread.

I haven't played since Sept. League starts up again next week. Should be an interesting round. I'm going in with a new attitude. Its called, not giving a **** about my score and having fun.

As the title says, I am almost at the point of giving up the game. I am just throwing/playing so bad right now that going to the course ruins my day and really makes me hate my self...:(. I know that sounds stupid but I am man enough to admit it.

Disc Golf is not even fun at this point, it has become such a number chasing game and I am almost forcing my self to go play.

Over the last several months my distance has gone from pushing 300' to 320' at times on the course to a good rip ( yeah, right?) gets me 275' max.

I used to be good at approach shots now that's gone, I am weak-arming my shots and they hyzer/fade too early. I have lost the ability to throw a straight mid/putter shot.

I got decent around the basket from 25' and in for a while, now I get "basket panic" on 10 footers . I have zero confidence at the moment...

My mental game is not existent and I continually tell my self "You Suck" after every mistake...bad drives ,bad ups , missed putts.

Feeling like having a disc clearing house sale right now. Keep an eye out for my sale thread.

Most likely I need to take a break for a bit and comeback to it. I used to do this every year at one point, no playing, no dg on the internet, etc. Just sequester my self away for a couple of weeks or so.

The weather was sooo great here that we pretty much did not have a winter season. I just could not "not" play when the weather was so awesome thru Dec, Jan, and Feb.

Pretty sure it has been over a year ( maybe two ) of playing with no break time/time away. I might just disappear for a bit or lurk here and there occasionally. I really don't want to give up the game. I am just tired of being so excited to go play and then quickly being so disappointed with my self afterwards....

Thanks for letting me vent and "share my feelings" ( I know men are not supposed to do that right? ) with you guys here. This is a great place and would miss it if I quit cold turkey.
It sucks to suck. You clearly want to be good at the game, you make it near palpable how much it is killing you to miss such easy shots. I get it - I get the same way. When nothing is going right, you need to step back and reassess. Find some more new ways to approach and enjoy your field work. Some new routines that get you focused on throwing with every disc, not just drivers (big hyzers out with driver to build power, mid-range shots back to a pin placement from where they land?).

When I'm off my game - it does suck. It drives me nuts. Nine holes in and I'm thinking to myself "I could be lesson planning. I could be cooking dinner. I could be lesson planning. I could be lesson planning. I could be with my girl. I could be lesson planning." Just thinking about all the **** that could get done if I wasn't golfing and wasting my time throwing away ten bucks. Not so much worried about the ten bucks, but c'mon Chris you don't toss money away that's silly.

And then you've gotta step back, reassess. Are you doing any field work anymore? Enough field work? Are you only getting to REALLY play a round once a week, maybe dropping in a quick nine or a few throws one other time at best. If you suck because you don't have REAL time to play, relax and let it happen and enjoy the good shots (it took me a long time to learn that part). If you can't separate from the competitive mindset you've got two options: either get out in the field, or stop.

But seriously, stopping is the worst option. You started because it was fun before you were good at it. You decided to be good at it because it was fun, because you wanted to be out there. So don't stop, just take a step back.

Played a solo round today with just two discs: a G* Rhyno and a G* Teebird. It was cold and it snowed again. I didn't beat any record score but I had fun. Tomorrow I'm going to add another disc and have at it again. Not sure if I'll add a Roc or a Leopard, depends on the wind. But it's got me thinking differently, that can certainly help in getting out of a rut.

Sometimes you just have to mix things up to get rejuvenated again.

Just take a break for a few weeks.

Proposing new courses and building them is way more taxing when your trying to please the masses. There's been plenty of times when parks said no to a course or I am putting my life in danger cutting down widow makers or mowing the course after a 12 hour shift that I wanted to say f this game and these people. If we gave up there wouldn't be any courses for peeps to play.

Guys and Gals. I really appreciate all the outpouring of support here. Cool to see a lot of what I call the "Old Guard" chiming in on this. Thanks to all of you :hfive:!

I am NOT going to be a quitter, I said "Almost" in my thread title.

Great suggestions, some I have thought about and some are new ideas to try.

I am too immersed in it to give it up and I love DG but a little distraction from time to time is not bad idea ( I understand this ), its just hard to stop where the weather is nice to play almost year round :D.

Thanks to Ian for telling me that I ( basically ) suck...:p and .

Thanks to JT for the book idea, I have always wanted to read it but just haven't got to it. Now is the time!

Will cross-dressing at the local course be the revelation in my game? I will cry to Oprah or Dr.Phil if it will work!

Thanks to hook-nuts for laughing at people for practicing 10'ers , I always start my warm up putts at that distance them move out from there.

The ALL FH round would be horrific and should be funny to see...I play with a ALL FH guy ( except putting. duh ), maybe we should swap throwing style for a round.

I will start to implement some of these ideas after a short break, starting this weekend...NO DG because the Masters will be my to-do for Sunday. Live web coverage all morning then switching to TV and web for the afternoon!

Monday, I will spend catching up on some things I have been needing to do instead of going to the course all afternoon. Then I will just go on feel from there.

On the positive, I have started a thread that has actually went some where with views AND participation to boot! for my self!

Sorry for the extra post, ran out of edit time...dang you 5 minute window!

Also disc dyeing could be something esle to catch up on ( I have been slacking there for sure ), now if I could just get Bennett to do some cuts for me :p.

You the man! Well unless we are keeping score it seems! :D

I'm glad this thread has lifted your disc golf spirits up! By the sounds of it you love the game too much to quit for sure so I'm positive that disc golf fever will come back full force eventually! :hfive: Keep the community updated please. Beautiful information we can all learn from. Thread rate 8/8.

I hope it's a singles league. Or you get a partner with the same high spirit.

In 2015 I played to the point that I pushed my elbow tendinitis over the edge and had to quite for 5 mos. Ever since I took that time off and took disc golf off the brain, I changed my outlook. I still like to do tournaments and want to play well, but I don't let the bad affect me. Since I know what do and took that break my form, putting, approach, etc. all greatly improved cause I went back into it. Take some time off. In fact, take time off til you miss it, then come back and realize that ultimately whatever it is (sport or recreation) It is meant to be fun, even competitively. The day I stopped competing and started enjoying disc golf again was one of the best days I ever had

That was the hardest thing for me to face, and I'm just now accepting it. I get in one round per week now, but I expect to make all the shots I was when I played all of the time. I'm definitely a better golfer now than years ago, but I was way more consistent then because I played all of the time. It's frustrating not executing a shot you know you're capable of.

I feel your pain. But even worse are those who are done by injury. I have yet to experience that pain and sorrow.
