So why wasn't all that (or any of that) in the caddy book?
Ding ding ding!
Again, it's not that the proper way to play the hole is hard to understand. Its that it isn't clear in the caddy book.

So why wasn't all that (or any of that) in the caddy book?
I hope he wins after all of this, or at least lose by less than 2. And the caddy book should be clear-as-day with no room left for interpretation. Paul can't be the only one to have misplayed, and I hope all video is looked at and other players come forward who did the same thing. Just an embarrassment for the TD and the sport. Here's to hoping none of it matters!
And when the history is written, let it emphasize the honesty and integrity of Paul McBeth. The stakes go beyond the final scores of the tournament; prestige, 5x Innova discs vs. 1x Lat 64 discs and all of that for years to come are in the mix. But McBeth stepped up and did the right thing. In a world where corruption rules (especially in all levels of Government, but I digress), it is extremely refreshing to see some honesty and integrity. That goes for Catrina Allen, as well.
His misplay was on film. He didn't really have a choice but to own up to it, as someone was very likely to notice if he didnt say anything.
Actually, I think I figured it out, and its pretty bizarre. Caddy book for hole 7 says (exact quote emphasis added)
The bolded part is really poorly phrased. Paul's second shot in round one crossed the island and went OB out the back. So he played last place in bounds, which is what the second sentence tells you to do. However, the third sentence tells you something completely different. This is a total cluster. I wish this would have been caught sooner, and I hope it doesn't end up costing paul 2 strokes, as it seems like had an honest interpretation of the caddy book.
But no one had caught it and likely wouldn't have. Ditto that for Catrina, who likely wasn't on film. And with all the confusion on the rule, it's likely everyone would've thought he must've done right. IMHO he stepped up out of integrity, not fear of getting caught.
That is, once you play from the DZ it's last IB. Then as a point of clarification, to play from the island you have to land on it
I've heard of similar things happening in BG. The consequences for getting caught are just too high so they self report. I'd argue that we, as a sport, are increasingly pushing for fair play. Paul is as much a part of that culture as anyone.
It's last point in bounds after the tee shot, except that it's actually not because of the island green. So when you miss the island, having already crossed the island, your not playing last point in bounds. Even though it says "All subsequent shots play last point in bounds". Which raises the question, which is fair, of where your lie is when you miss the island, because it isn't last point in bounds because that point was on the island you didn't make.
Did I make that confusing enough?
