[Millennium] Hyzerbomb Mortar

To be fair though I got a quick response about disc colors. If that's what they received that's what they received. I just wanted to know if I'd be swapping them out before I tossed them and it was too late.

All of mine will be throwers, so the stamp drop outs aren't a big deal, but if I were buying them as a collector I could see people being salty over it.

And as far as the shipping, refunds will be given for any miscalculation after all the orders get shipped out.

I'd imagine there will be some Facebook whining though.

Hopefully they can fix these things moving forward. I don't think there will bee too much complaining on FB. The smaller DG companies usually have built up a bit more good will. The Innova factory store having these issues would cause a crap storm.

Got mine in today, love how they look. The champ plastic is an interesting feel, super glossy and lots of time bubbles. Overall pretty pleased.

Are those both Recon blue? They look like different plastics..

My recon looks like the one on the left of Jon's photo. It's fairly opaque and super pearly. Not the typical champ look I'm used to. I'm wondering if this was between shots of Frontline X and Recon so it has a bit of G* mixed with Champion plastic.

If I could have ordered matching baby blue recons, I would have! Ordered orange simply because I didn't know the shade of blue (which apparently varies)

Got a chance to throw my pearly recon and frontline today a bit. Right now I bag a 2015 ledgestone ti flx zone, c line fd2, and a couple firebirds. I thought the mortar might be a bit redundant but I was getting an extra 30-40 feet from where the zone was landing. Anything longer than a zone and I was powering down the fd2. So zone forehand to about 250, fd2 250-300, and firebird over 300. I was getting the mortar a little shy of 300 with some stank. Frontline still faded like the recon but was prone to turn over a little if I didn't release clean. Normally I like gstar but mine was a tad soft for my liking, albeit it was right at 100 here today.

Long story short I'm a fan, not nearly as insanely beefy like the last few gators I've thrown. Definitely overstable but workable overstable. I'd be interested to see how the infinite batch of swirlies turned out, I think I'd prefer a regular star run to frontline.

Beadless gator? No, not really. Maybe a cousin but definitely not the same. The wing on a Gator sweeps back much more steeply than on the Mortar. It shows in the flight too. This thing is no where near as OS as a Gator. I'd put it at more like Verdict OS. Definitely not Gator not even close.

With that said, I think this will be a very useful disc. My initial impressions are:

I like the feel and the top is board flat. I got a Recon and a Frontline-x (gstar). The Fx is much less OS than the Recon. I like it for backhand throws that need to go a long ways before fading sort of gently at the end. It reminds me of a Cro. The Recon has a bit more meat on the bone and flicks better (handles more torque). Both seem to have more distance potential (at normal power) than my Gator and much, much less fade.

The Gator, Mortar and Cro are all 21.2 cm diameter discs. I don't have a Cro to compare it with on hand but I've had Cros before and I liked them. The Mortar looks like a Gator top with a Cro bottom.

After 15 throws I feel like the Fx mortar is about as stable as a Roc or a Ghost. Not more. Neat disc. Not at all what I was expecting.

Not to nitpick but...

I thought something was amiss when I opened my envelope. I thought I ordered a purple recon. The one I got is light blue. I checked my confirmation email from 7/5 and indeed I had ordered purple. I ordered early and there were plenty of purple ones left when I ordered. At $19.50 for Recon and $8.50 for shipping for two discs ($8.50!!), I'm a little disappointed in the color shift. Not a huge deal, I like the blue fine I guess. I've already thrown it around so...oh well.

From what I was told when asking about my teal frontline is that it sounded like he put in color requests with Innova, loaded those colors as options ahead of time to be ready to get them posted as quick as possible, and some of the order colors weren't necessarily what he had requested. So if you got a wrong color it's because he didn't get it from Innova.

I agree about the frontlines though, mine was more prone to torque on a forehand. My flick is clean, but I was trying to power up a lot on them to see how far I could stretch them. Frontline would flip over, but still come back. I think frontline will be the backhand mid, recon forehand.

Well that makes sense about the color. Also, I get that there was a scramble on these and there isn't time to email everyone and ask them if their first color wasn't available, did they have a second choice?

I was throwing the gstar one on some really nice lines last night. It's a bit unpredictable but when it works its a really cool thing. It flies like a faster stable putter.

All of HyzerBomb's discs are OPP Innova molds (except the Veteran which is a plussy Eagle X). The Mortar is the beadless Gator that Innova use to make in Star plastic.

^ this. so comparing it to a glow beaded gator is why you got different results. the nose on the gator changed as well, went from rounded to more square? or square to more rounded, cant remember. either way, mocheez is correct, all of hyzerbombs molds are old oop discs. hell, the first runs of veterans had an E on the back lol its an eagle+

I think this is the most important piece to it. I don't remember exactly when the nose configuration changed, but the gator went from a rounded nose to blunt nose. For a while DGV was noting in their description which nose configuration they were. I'm guessing part of getting the mold was taking the old nose configuration too.

The beadless gremlin needs to make a comeback...
