I have been frustrated lately due to hitting the front of the basket *way* too often. Where do you miss putts when on the course?

That said I didn't really have any data to prove to myself that this was happening more than the rest of my missed putts... perhaps it was simply the most frustrating and memorable. I put together (and attached) this "putting diagram" that I'm going to print a set of for each round. Has anyone else used something like this to good effect when practicing or playing?

Most of the time I'm short. But I find your diagram idea intriguing.

missing short or long is much more readily correctable than missing left or right- it's really just a speed problem rather than being offline somehow. i don't get mad at myself for missing short unless i'm doing it repeatedly- missing to the right is what really ticks me off.

Interesting diagram..I've never bothered to track my misses *that* closely, but most of mine are in 1 of 3 places: dead center on the basket (most often), high and on the right side of the chain assembly top, or whiffing past the chains on the left side.

I play a putting game called Pozzy Putting. Throughout a round I'll putt 50 times at the very least, and since I started playing regularly again I've found that I can usually tell if the putt is going in and, if not, where it's gonna miss as soon as it leaves my hands.

i always miss left, especially on jump putts, I always pick a link about 2-3 chains right of the pole at about mid way up

it weird because if compensate right, i miss right?!?!?!

I tend to miss short, but that's the way I prefer it. Erring low or short leaves you with a shorter follow-up putt than missing high or long, which makes it feel like a safer putt. So I like to let my putts die in the basket. I usually miss really long putts to the right because tend to I overestimate the fade on my putter. Again, I'd rather miss right (RHBH putting) because that tends to leave a shorter follow-up putt.

It's just a matter of "playing it safe."

On my misses, most come up short or hit the front of the basket. The diagram is a pretty cool idea. I have never thought about it that close until this topic.

I usually miss short on my putts, but lately Ive been frustatrated by hitting the front of the basket ... I hate being that close, but still missing. I just need to practice putting a lot more this year to improve my game.

0'-15' range - I don't miss.

15'-30' range - If I miss it's usually low, especially uphill or with a tail wind.

Outside of 25' - If I miss it's probably 2:1 to the left due to fade.

If my putter had absolutely no fade whatsoever, I would hit 75% more putts. Most of the ones I miss are to the left due to the fade. Good poll and nice chart.

I get a little frustrated myself for leaving it short. I practice at home at least two to three hours or more a week (15 minute intervals) and at home I drill the putts, but when I am playing a round it seems like I lose power somewhere and leave it short more than I would like.

I love the chart...I think you could learn alot by using the chart and playing Pozzy's Putting Game. In a few rounds and by recording your misses, I bet you can really learn something fast.

Oh before the questions come here is the link to the Pozzy Thread.
