Have you seen this MoFo? Golf Mahal?

right now i'm carrying 16 in the main pocket. everything in my signature except the aviar and wizards are in the main pocket plus i have another roc and a c-pd i'm carrying.

Agreed.

How many discs are you guys realistically getting in the main compartment? I mean, without having to PRY them out.

I can get about 14-15 comfortably (1-2 distance, 4-5 control, 4 fairways, 4-5 mids) max. I always have to use one side pocket for 2-3 driving putters and the putter pocket for two putting putters.

Anyone getting buy with more in the main? Or have a clever setup to fit what I'm carrying?

In the main I have

2x World/1x Giant/2x Havoc
6x PD/1x XXX/3x Teebird/1x River

So I guess that's 16? It's a super loose fit. It's tight enough that nothing is falling over but I like for things to be super loose.

I keep a moonshine warden, glo zone, 750 M4, 2 x glo le flx buzzz, glo z buzzz OS in the side pocket.

Front:
2x Aviar PnA and a Volt
Main:
1x Proxy/2x Envy/1x Fuse/1-2x Buzzz/1x Pain
2X Crave/1x Resistor/2-3X Wraith

Usually 12-15 in main and two putters and my thumber disc in the front pocket. If I only have 12 in the main, I usually have a golf towel to cut down on the extra space.

Did the newer ones get bigger? 16 would be stuffed in the main for me, and two Wizards are snug in the putter pocket.

I guess. Three putters would be snug for me in front pocket, but doable. Two putters and a volt isn't tight at all.

My 16 are all drivers. And I've been using mine for almost a year and it just now feels like the putter pocket is loose enough to put 3 putters, and it's still snug.

I'll do a full review and update on the mass in USA thing later this week. I just got home from a long flight.

But it holds 13 drivers and 4 mids iN the main. 4 putters and 4 mids in the side. 2 minis and 2 putters easily in the front. It's tight but you can get them in and out easier than when you're cramming less discs into a grip, in the compartments with those discs but it's also brand new not even one round on it. I expect it to season up nicely and don't really think most would carry that many. But if you wanted too you could no problem.

I have a bulky sweatshirt and a 1.5liter bladder in the other side. There's plenty of room in the main for towels as well. It's much deeper than a disc.

14 drivers in the main. 6 mids in an accordion divider in one side pocket. 4 driving putters in accordion in the other. 3 putters in the putter pocket. The 3 putters are snug, but I don't have to yank them to get them out. During the round they often self stack in the pocket with the outer one all the way down, the middle one 2" higher, and the inner most 2" above that. Works out pretty nicely, and I've not had one fall out.

Do you have a picture of the accordion divider? I can't seem to figure out what that is?

Here's my review of the Mahal.

Received it about 4 days after I ordered it (I live in OH), opted for the USPS shipping because it was a few bucks cheaper.

Bag arrived in perfect condition. Read through the fitting booklet and proceeded to load it up. With all the pockets expanded I had the following in the bag.

Main Compartment: 16 Drivers comfortably
Side Compartment 1: 4 Putters and 4 Mids (pretty tight but workable)
Side Compartment 2: Some Extra Towels, a Sweatshirt, and a lighter long sleeve shirt.
2 32oz water bottles
2 more towels in one of the additional zipper pockets
candy, misc, etc in the other additional zipper pockets.
Stool strapped to the front.
And I tried putting the umbrella (unsuccessfully, see cons) in the space on the side with the little velco straps.

I then removed the umbrella and stool so I could attempt to fit the bag.

I'm a pretty tall guy, about 6'-6'1'' and relatively lean at 185 lbs. I have a longer torso than most guys my size. (this will be relevant with the fitting).

Mystery Ranch says that puts me into a Medium Yoke, and that's what I got.

I followed the instructions, the bag was not real comfortable. I took it on a few walks around the block to see if it would settle. Alas, no improvement. The bag simply rode way to high on my back. So I contacted Mystery Ranch, and spoke to a rep named Lora. She was very helpful, I sent them pictures of the bag on my back and they came back with some suggestions.

I lowered the yoke and the bag rode a little lower, we tried multiple positions. I completely reset the bag, took everything out and fitted it empty. Again the bag was too high when following the booklet, so I lowered it per Lora's advice. I put everything back in and carried it around the block, it still wasn't comfortable.

I ended up returning the bag because we tried everything and it just didn't work for me. I ate the shipping cost both ways to do so.

Lora and the mystery ranch team were great, all very helpful and friendly. Often calling me the next day to see how things went with the adjustments and didn't try to put me off returning it at all. I would do business with them again in a heartbeat.

Here's my overall thoughts and the reason way the bag was not comfortable for me.

Pros:

Extremely well made, great fabric, obviously built to last, looks really slick.
Basically waterproof, no umbrella needed to protect your discs.
Versatile design, can make it bigger/smaller as needed, would be an acceptable day pack off the disc golf course if needed as well.
Tons of storage, as much as any competitor bag IMO
Yoke system does redistribute the weight in a positive way (if the Futura Yoke is comfortable for you, see cons)

Cons:

Comfort - With the chest strap and the waist belt buckled it was great, without them it was not comfortable for me. My torso was just a little to long for the futura yoke system to keep the weight of a fully loaded bag on me correctly and I found it extremely heavy when compared to the same amount of weight just loaded into a Jansport backpack. I didn't plan on needing to keep these strapped at all times, it just wasn't practical to do so between throws and this is the main reason I am returning the bag.

Design Flaw - The side slots for umbrella and/or water bladder use now have an obscene amount of velco in there. I did not see that on reviews on youtube so I'm thinking its a new addition. It starts from the top of the pouch and continues to the bottom of the bag, approx 7 inchs. Its very strong velco too. It made placing the umbrella handle or a water bladder inside almost impossible.

Room for improvement - There is a ton of extra space in the top area of the main compartment above the discs, not a con, but they could have used this in some way.

Room for improvement - There is no feet on the bottom of the bag, not a big deal considering the fabric durability, but I feel for $260 it could have some feet.

Lastly, the bags are not made in the USA as we have discussed recently. Mystery Ranch apologized for the mix up on the website, and it should be corrected in the future. They also more than made up for it with the level of customer service I received. The bag quality is also top notch. I will be a return customer, just wish the Mahal had worked for me.

Overall, I would recommend trying one on in person first. It could be the last bag you ever need, or you could not like it and be out the cost of shipping. Best of luck!

^great review. Sorry it didn't work out for you. I did have to mess with mine a good bit when i got to get the fit right.

The only thing I'd disagree with is the bladder pocket. The velcro is not a new feature. Is super strong as to hold the umbrella upright. I've used a bladder and umbrella in mine and never had any problems. But hey, to each their own.

Hope you find a premium bag you like. If I hadn't bought my Mahal I would've got the Gorilla Boy Simian.

Yeah I'm still using my ranger for now and dealing with the slightly less storage.

On the Velcro, granted I never actually used the bag for a round so it didn't have time to wear in, but I thought it was a little strong to be shoving a full bladder down in there.

If I ever need a new hiking pack I will definitely be buying a Mystery Ranch packs. The other packs use a different yoke system which the staff thought I would like much better.

Sorry to hear that the bag was not able to work for you. On the Velcro issue I found that you can use a driver to separate the Velcro kind of like the piece that is used to adjust the yoke when fitting

That's a really good tip, I would probably change my opinion on it being a Con if I had tried that.

Does anyone actually ever use this bag for hiking or anything else non disc golf related?

I've used the bag as a overnighter or weekend bag when traveling or a carry on bag at the airport. I've also used it on day hikes. It's definitely not just a DG bag.
