Using your phone to determine disc speed?

Average distances by skill-class can be really skewed, but average distances by disc speed give us some pretty good numbers. On average, a 60mph drive will travel about 350 feet. The standard deviation, though, is pretty big. With a great throw, a wobble-free release, and the right disc...

Using your phone to determine disc speed?

Ha! No, I haven't found any VC groups interested in our sport yet, but I'll keep an eye out! I agree on the tech -- I am also looking to see what other tech/gadgets/apps are out there that could be adapted for disc golf. There is a lot around ball golf and baseball, but I haven't found...

Using your phone to determine disc speed?

Thanks -- there's no doubt your idea would be accurate. To clarify, this is not for our internal research -- we actually do use a radar gun for our testing -- very accurate, and it captures max speed vs. average speed over a span. Our goal for this project is to find a way for the average...

Using your phone to determine disc speed?

Thanks for the input! I like the track you are on because it doesn't require any special gear -- making it easy for anyone to do at their home course. Phone, tape measure, and a set of simple instructions. It could work!

Using your phone to determine disc speed?

We are working on a system that helps players find discs that are a good match for their current release velocity. The "easy" way to determine exact release velocity is with a radar gun, but (of course) very few people have one. Does anyone have any ideas on how people can use their smartphone...

    "Signature" Holes

Question for all course designers: when you are developing the course plan, do you give specific thought/emphasis to including a "signature" hole, like Blue Ribbon Pines #4?

[Vibram] Vibram Disc Golf Thread (Part II)

Lots of love here for Vibram's high-quality products! QUESTION TO THOSE MOST WHO ARE HIGHLY EXPERIENCED WITH VIBRAM'S PRODUCT LINE: If you had to pick one Vibram disc that solidly outperforms all other discs on the market in the role for which they were designed (e.g. understable...

    My First Few Spin Dyes

Very cool! I particularly like how the Leopard dye complements the base color of the disc as well.

    Does the Putt Count....or not?

Just wanted to share a quick graphic I made to explain the PDGA's "Holing-Out" rules. This always seems to be a source of controversy, particularly with newer players or at certain courses where they have developed certain "course rules." Hope this helps! :)

    [Innova] BOSS Love??

Say what you will about the wind conditions at the Desert Wind, but there is a reason a Boss has held the last two world distance records. Even if the winds produce impossibly far distances, the best distances were with Bosses.

How Much of a Headwind to affect disc?

    Exactly right.

How Much of a Headwind to affect disc?

There are three factors to consider: your release velocity, the windspeed, and the stability of the disc. Here's a quick video that explains the science: How to Choose a Driver Based on Wind Conditions Good luck!
