Review by Hector Chain in course Oakcrest Cove DGC

4.00 star(s) More of this on the Cape, please Finally, a 2nd course on Cape Cod! As of a few weeks ago, every hole has paver pads. All the holes have two baskets and that's been the case for over a year. The design of this place is nothing less than excellent. I'm really impressed. A common complaint I...

Review by Hector Chain in course Coggshall Park

3.50 star(s) As you move farther west from Boston, the hills get bigger and bigger. I was surprised at how much elevation the course presented. The middle of the course zigs and zags up and down a steep portion of the hill. Holes 4-12 hold some fun holes as you go up and down. Hole 8 is a 193-foot tunnel...

What's happening at the Tim Selinske Masters??

This was my first US Masters. I played Am 40 and thought it was great. We got two rounds at Maple Hill, which is still my #1 course. 501 is the 2nd best course in the state, and everyone I talked to loved it. Newton Hill is admittedly average. The broken glass is a little eye opening, but the...

Review by Hector Chain in course Idlewild

5.00 star(s) I joined this site in 2008. Over the past 11 years, I've watched courses come and go from the top 10. I've played more of them than not. But Idlewild has always been around, always waiting, always tempting me. And finally the day came to play it. The terrain here is terrific and none of the...

Review by Hector Chain in course Harmon Hills

4.00 star(s) Nestled in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains (do the Appalachians have foothills? I'm going to say yes), the 27 holes have some big distance and big elevation. The course is mostly wooded but pleasantly ducks in and out of the forest with more than a few wide open areas. I can't...

Review by Hector Chain in course Kahului DGC

3.00 star(s) The kind of course you fly 12 hours to play Are you bored by the lush peaks of Western Maui, the yawn-inducing Haleakala National Park, the tiresome beaches, the copious sunshine, and the beautiful women? Congrats, there is a disc golf course here to fill your time! The course is mostly holes...

Review by Hector Chain in course Cedar Glades

3.50 star(s) Steps from Hot Springs National Park, this course introduces you to some of the natural beauty of Arkansas. The course is entirely wooded, and every hole that I remember had a significant elevation change. There were plenty of approach shots where I had to figure out how to hit a gap and get...

Review by Hector Chain in course The TRAXX

3.00 star(s) Tucked away in the corner of a park beyond baseball fields but before the mysterious Alcoa property next door, this is a nice piece of work. The infrastructure is all very good. Two concrete tees on most holes. Bridges across the streams and ravines. Tee signs listing the distances from the two...

Review by Hector Chain in course Swampy Hollow DGC

0.00 star(s) There appear to be 9 baskets here. That's all I got on the pros for this course. Other than hole 1, the fairways are completely overgrown. When I found the tee pad for #2, I laughed at the fairway, which was a jungle with no visible basket. I did find it eventually, but after hole 3 I stopped...

Review by Hector Chain in course Nantucket DGC

4.00 star(s) There once was a course on Nantucket You're on Nantucket, so there's a good chance it's summer and your rode a bike here. So you're in a good mood. This is a course in a forest, but it doesn't feel like any forest I've seen in the Northeast. The trees are predominantly coastal pines. They are...

    Maple Hill-not top ten...really ?

Maple Hill just raised their summer fees to $20 for weekends, and I love it. It's still a bargain but it chases away some of the crowds. I'm up to 190 courses or so, and it's been my #1 for nearly 10 years. I'm lucky to have it an hour away.

    One day in Portland

I thought Horning's was better. More variety and way more elevation. But you can't go too wrong. Milo is really pretty.

The Redundancy of reviewing Top Rated Courses

Stick around awhile. You'll see some of the top courses get reviewed right out of the top 25. Those of us who've been around awhile remember The Woodshed, Highbridge Granite Ridge, Whistler's Bend, Milo McIver, Warwick...all top 10 courses that aren't in the top 25. You'll also find some courses...

Review by Hector Chain in course Harmony Bends DGC

4.50 star(s) Arm me with harmony It's a wooded course designed by John Houck but with a bunch of elevation. Okay, I'm in. The course tests your decision making from the first throw with your drive crossing over two bends of the snaking creek before a third crossing at the end. The wooded creek feature...

Review by Hector Chain in course 501 Disc Golf DGC

4.50 star(s) Where did this come from? Usually young basketball players take several years to develop their skills and figure out what makes them great. But sometimes you get the rare guy who grows 6 inches over a summer and is suddenty on everyone's radar. 501 is that prodigy. I don't know where this course...
