When I am reading a review for a *public* course and I see the words "too short" I tune out. I believe a PUBLIC course should be geared toward the public. That is, women, children, older people, and casual players. None of those groups can consistently and accurately throw 300 feet, and public courses need to be built in a way that accommodates that fact. TO make this simple: if half the people that play a course are prevented from ever getting birdie because they can't reach the greens, the course design stinks.
