Little Basin Cabins and Campground Up In Boulder Creek Lacks Pizzazz! 2+ years

Reviewed: Played on:Jan 25, 2019 Played the course:once

Pros:

I'm not sure if the The Little Basin Campground is private or if is a state park. It's set up in this mountainous area around Boulder Creek that seems to have a summer camp on every side road. The 1 and 1/2 mile road up here is primitive. I don't know how people could drive motor homes up there or pull camping trailers. There is a building where you can check in and get maps. I skipped it as the course was visible as you drive in. There were a few campers here in January.

The course is mostly mountain rustic with it's homemade signs and Eisenhower era Discatchers, they are the old primitive ones, single chains with the ugly round cap on top that resembles a crown. The tee pads are natural but easy to locate.

The course is actually a pretty decent design for campers. It probably could be a little shorter to accommodate these most casual players although only # 6 plays over 300'. The terrain is flat but varies from somewhat open with scattered trees to heavily wooded. Most baskets are stuck in some bushes or hidden behind a tree or two.

Cons:

The equipment is old, dated and mostly unattractive. It's all rustic up here. And the baskets are older and even more unattractive.

Unimaginative design but the terrain doesn't accommodate anything more glamorous.

Course doesn't loop back.

It's a long drive up here to Boulder Creek.

Other Thoughts:

Actually a fairly decent little course for the campers here. It won't wow you in any way but if I happened to find myself camping here, I'd get out and throw a few rounds. Don't bother driving up here for any reason other than a camping trip or a serious course bagging adventure.

Stumbled Upon this Course 2+ years drive by

Reviewed: Played on:May 13, 2015 Played the course:once

Pros:

Beautiful campground, beautiful redwood trees, nice folks in the campground areas let me play even though I wasn't camping.

Cons:

-Tee signs are vague and it was tough to find way around the course.
-The holes goes out from the parking lot, and the final hole is the farthest away from parking lot so its a long walk back to hole 1 if you want to play again.
-Several of the baskets were crooked and 1 was even on its side and had to be set up to play
-Poison Oak is every where on the final few holes

Other Thoughts:

Beautiful Campgrounds and its nice that disc golf is part of the park, and if your planning a camping trip the campgrounds are great. But if your a serious disc golfer, you may want to skip playing this course

Pros:

Course seemed well maintained.
Holes start off long and wide open, then get shorter and more technical in the woods.
Great setting.

Cons:

You have to be a camper in order to play. Campground website says no day use. Also...no alcohol allowed on premises.

Other Thoughts:

This course is part of a really cool campground just south of Big Basin. The campground has tent sites and cabins for rent (reservations only), and the park has multiple things to do and is surrounded by great hiking trails.
