The Vail Valley Foundation, organizers of the annual GoPro Mountain Games in Vail, Colorado, have just announced complete details for this year's Mountain Masters Disc Golf competition including the $8,500 total cash prize purse to be paid out to top finishers in both the men's and women's fields.

This one-of-a-kind event, taking place in the high Rocky Mountains June 9th through the 11th, features a format the includes traditional stroke play golf as well as three unique skills competitions. Players spend Friday and Saturday in qualifying rounds that include 18 holes at a brand new, temporary course at Maloit Park and Vail Ski & Snowboard Academy in Minturn, 9 holes on the traditional temp course at Ford Amphitheater in East Vail, and three unique skills competitions (putting, accuracy and MPH) two of which will take place in the spectator heavy pedestrian mall in downtown Vail. Top qualifiers then move on to the finals on Sunday to compete for the cash and medals.

In addition to this truly unique disc golf experience, all players will also be treated to the following during event weekend:

- A player's pack worth over $100 including a free disc from Nite-Ize
- FREE concerts each night from bands like: Moon Taxi, Keller Williams, Nahko & Medicine for the People, White Denim, and more
- FREE glow rounds after dark courtesy of Nite-Ize
- FREE food and beverage (both adult and otherwise) at the Trigger Point Athlete Lounge
- The chance to take in the full Mountain Games experience while witnessing the performances of top athletes in climbing, slackline, rafting & kayaking and much more
- An opportunity to take in the breathtaking beauty of summertime in the Rocky Mountain with close to 300 other disc golfers

This event filled in less than two days in 2016 and we anticipate much of the same this year. The first FIVE people to sign up will also receive a free pair of Olukai shoes just for having a quick trigger finger!

If you have any questions, please post them below. Otherwise, we hope to see you here in Eagle County, Colorado this June!

Will there be a disabled women's legend division?

Unlike most tournaments, that division will, unfortunately, not be available. /s

While we're on the topic, this is actually an unsanctioned, "One division. One champion." event (we beat DGPT by one year on that) with no age protected or ratings protected fields. There are separate men's and women's fields but that is the only distinction.

The format, complete with skills competitions and non-traditional scoring, allows for all players to have a chance regardless of ability. The field of Sunday qualifiers generally sees a good representation of players who would normally participate in the lower divisions in PDGA sanctioned events.

It also follows the Mountain Games' overall philosophy of "Pros vs. Joes" where anyone can compete alongside the best of the best in their chosen discipline.

And, while the payout schedule is subject to change before event time, the payout amounts that will go to the top men and women will be EQUAL regardless of their respective field sizes.
