You'd be surprised how many business professionals use gmail. Chances are, this show is being produced by someone not directly employed by MTV, so they don't have an MTV branded email. Far easier and cheaper to just create a gmail account specific to exclusively handle what is sure to be a bunch of email applications. This way multiple people can get access to it without anything getting lost or storage becoming an issue.

^^ This. Reality show is the bottom rung of the industry. There's no bells and whistles they just hire freelancers and work them to the bone for (relatively) little pay.
