I just wanted to thank Glide Disc Golf Shop, The Baraboo Lions Club, and the faculty and staff at UW-Baraboo for an awesome and fun-filled tournament today at The Baraboo Lions Disc Golf Course!!!! It was my first tournament and I haven't had that much fun in a long time. Good job to everyone and let's get some more of those concrete tee pads in!!!

nice . . . wish I could have been there. what division were you in and how did you do

Since it was my first tournament, I just played in the recreation division, but I won it by 1 shot!!! There were only 18 people in "rec" division, but it was still exciting to win in my first tournament. I'll definitely try playing "rec" division in a couple more tourneys this summer, then maybe try an intermediate division in the fall or next year.

I just looked at your scores on PDGA . . .If you play before the next ratings update you can (although you obviously have the skillt o play intermediate) still play recreational, but your rating will be 924 when the next update comes if you havent played anymore tourneys . . . which will force you to play intermediate or above. 935 is the cutoff for intermediate where you would need to move up to advanced.

This might be a little late, but if you're ever in Baraboo, check out Dr. Evermore's scrap-metal sculpture park. Absolutely insane monolithic metal sculptures. Super creative, and Dr. Evermore and his wife are very nice friendly people who appreciate visitors.

Well worth a couple of hours to hang out and picnic at.

Sorry for the threadjack.

Thanks for the info harr0140. Does the PDGA keep track of ratings even if your not a member yet? I noticed on the results posted from the tournament that some of us don't have ratings listed. Or is that just because we hadn't played any tourneys yet? I plan on joining PDGA eventually, I just can't quite afford it right now.

Your rating will be established when they make a ratings update. Seems kindof silly that the rating cant be real time, but whatever. Someone else may be better to ask about the ratings establishment. If you are a member then the rating will be forumlated when they do the next ratings update (4 times per year I think). If not a member the scores can count for it, btu I think you have to indicate that you want them to be used.

The ratings can't be real time partly because many TDs either don't code the courses played properly or don't do it at all. It also would end up with ratings jumping all over the place if they changed daily depending on when a TD posts them and many more events would be posted out of order than the few that are now. That instability would make more work for TDs with players waiting to pre-register to where their rating would end up and TDs having to move more players from division to division at the last minute when a new event got posted and ratings were updated the night before an event.

Thanks Chuck, that makes sense, I just hadnt really thought of the repercussions to the real time aspect.
