Found a disc on Aug 24th, I sent a picture from the course and got a response from him wanting the disc back. I was out of the country from Aug 27-2 Sept. I have texted him several times since the 2nd looking to meet and give him the disc back.

How long do I keep trying until I take ownership. (I would plan to sell it rather than throw it.) Don't want to sell it and have him come calling back.

LE Z Drone if it matters any.

Many many many many many many many many many many many posts like this.

And they all end in, "It's your call."

But I do dislike selling found plastic. I don't believe it's right. Hang on to it and it might make your own bag or give/trade it to a friend that will use it in their bag. Or like Scotty said you may finally end up finding the owner.

It's not yours to sell. Toss it in the trunk and you'll eventually meet up. I got my Havoc back after 2 months the other day when the finder sought me out at a tournament in his home town.

you really need to make the effort to return it. If it was yours wouldn't you want it back? Plus you never know what you may get in return.

I threw a new Surge SS on a water hole in May that hit a branch and did the lost splash down dance. Someone just returned it to me. I gave him a brand new 1st Run Crank as a reward.

Found a disc in some heavy, HEAVY shrubbery trees the other day (don't ask what >I< was doing in there...ugh). Texted the guy, no response in a few days....I'll give it a while. No way would I sell it, would rather give it to someone who may use it or to a complete beginner who has zero to 2-3 discs.

That's my take.

Stick it n your car and wait a few months. It's no longer your problem to contact the owner but give him a chance to follow up and get it from you.

Why is doing the right thing have to have so much gray area. Don't look for rules or guidelines, just do the right thing, man.

I have an old Saturn Comet I found in the creek at Indian Creek Park @ 3 (?) years ago. The only ID on it was guys full name and PDGA #. Tracked it down to a (then) local ATL player, sent him a few PM's thru the ADGO site. He replied a couple times saying he wanted it back, but never sent me an address. I still have it in a box in the shop.
Maybe I'll run into him one day...

I've been sitting on a disc for about a month now - called the owner, told him where I work, gave him my number, it would be a snap for him to swing by and get it, but he still hasn't.

I'm in no hurry; it can just sit on the computer under my desk for as long as it takes.

I would sell it if u need the money.

If u tried to return it. and he didnt respond, I would send one more message with a timeframe. then sell it. you did the right thing.

This gets the +1 for the day.

I do not know if this tread is just fishing for rants followed by angry comments that only makes the popcorn the rest of us are eating even more delicious, or if this is truly a dilemma that needs an answer. Either way, the act of just asking is showing that there is a clear right and wrong answer and there is this very human need to hear an excuse to choose the wrong answer so it can be blamed on someone else ("he told me to do it").

I'm not a hoarding of anything. I'm fairly OCD on keeping my house clean. I have about 6 discs that aren't in my bag so anything I don't plan on using I sell.

I have found and given away plenty of DX discs in my life time. I've "done the right thing" numerous times, and also been on the other side before "thanks for calling, go ahead and keep it".

I was just looking for ideas on how to properly dispose of the disc. Some right and somewrong in some peoples eyes.

I guess we all love texting but why not try calling and at least leave a message. If you dont get a response after a week then "its your call"

I believe the best way to dispose of a disc that seems fair and legit is to find a local league (preferably a league that runs at the course where you found the disc) and ask them to hold on to it. They have far better connections, both on the course and social media, and have a higher success rate of getting discs back into the owner's hands. Also, they are better equipped to hold onto discs for longer time.

Before you do so, give the owner one last call or text. Being polite, mention that if you do not hear back from him or her that you will leave it with the _______ league and they will hold on to it until he or she has time to pick it up.

honestly, i text daily for about a week.

if, at the end of that week, they haven't responded, i tell them via text that i'm just going to sell it or trade it in if they don't respond.

i've had people ignore my texts only to respond after the threat.

that threat WILL happen, by the way, eventually. i made the effort. after a certain point it's not worth the effort. i tried. i usually give it to friends who are missing discs or trade it in for a disc i like.

i've even tried to track down people by pdga numbers, talking to people at leagues, asking people on the course, so you can't say it's for a lack of trying.

This! once you have put in effort. they are actually abandoning the disc.

sell it.

You found the disc and you tried to return the disc. Do what you gotta do.

People act like plastic discs are somehow sacred objects that exist in a different continuum of space time than other objects. Folks have been finding artifacts for as long as people have been leaving artifacts and making profits off the found items. You think every arrowhead collector donates the found Indian artifacts to a local tribe or museum? Not a chance. It's easy to act altruistic and holier than thou when posting on a message board and telling other people what to do.

Blah blah blah poppycock!

I'd feature it in a series of low brow pornography movies and send them a royalty check
