I'm done.

Arm is fricking shot. Gonna go to the Dr. Monday. I just can't figure out what the heck is wrong unless there is a bone spur or something cutting my muscle but the pain isn't ridiculous though right now it is pretty constant. :wall: I am out of lortabs too.

I hope something good comes out of this...I really don't want to have to quit the sport...it is keeping me (more) fit and getting me outside a lot.

I will caddy for my wife and maybe throw righty a bit...I can throw about 80-100' right now but the putting is BAD!!

My pain is is on the outside of my arm, from shoulder to elbow in the muscle there that is between the bicep and triceps...not even sure what the hell it is. I cannot lift my arm above shoulder level without a lot of pain.

Good Luck Man, if the doctor says its out, go righty, might take a year or two, but you will get it.

Thing is I don't know how to rest my left arm...I am left handed, short of slinging it so I cannot use it I don't see how I will stop using it.

It sounds kind of similar to the bone spur my dad got in his shoulder. Throwing with bone spur = not good.

I had a work related injury last year, which resulted in the same pain and conditions you describe. I had a 60 lb box of fountain syrup fall from over head. I threw my right fore arm up to protect my head, and the impact with my arm, pulled it backwards pretty good behind me. Workmans comp just had x rays done, and sent me to 6 weeks of PT. I returned to regular work for a whole 3 days, and simply could not do my job due to so much overhead lifting (Coca Cola route driver). Over a month later, work comp finally sent me in for an MRI. Orthopedic Dr said I had a torn rotator cuff, due to a bone spur that tore the muscle when my shoulder got pulled back. I had the surgery on June 4 last year, and through PT at a sports specialist, threw my first disc golf disc in mid August. It was slow going at first, and painful, but I'm finally getting consistant backhand drives in the 300 foot range. I've already developed arthur in my shoulder, so, my abilities come and go. Since the surgery, anything I do overhead, is more painful than before. I can't do push ups, pull ups, when I sleep with my arm overhead, I have to use my other arm to move it back down in the morning. There's even been a couple of times I've slept on my stomach, my good arm fell asleep, and I had to get my wife to help me roll back over! Sorry I got so long winded, just to say if it does come down to surgery, be prepared for the possibility that you won't be any better after. In my case, there's less pain than before in normal lower range of motions, but, overhead is still just as bad, if not worse. Heck, I'm just now getting enough range back to reach across, grab the seat belt, and buckle it up.

I can relate to your frustration and pain. A sling may be a good thing till the doc can see you. I hope it works out.

I just hope you get it figured out soon! Because if you don't get your arm fixed, next will be getting in the "Carpool Tunnel" ;) from spilling all your withdrawl on here. :D Good Luck with this my friend.

Let me just say that if there is something seriously wrong I hope the dr is able to find something. I have a bum shoulder(might be related to my rotator cuff) but all tests run thus far haven't found anything. So been dealing with this for over a year now.

Just got my second cortizone shot in my shoulder in 6 months. Feels great now with the injection, but its still unknown if I'm causing further damage. I'll be getting an MRI in a few months, once the numbness from the cortizone is gone. I've never hoped that they'd just find the problem. If it hangs me up for a year or need surgery on it I'm fine with it. But going through the pain, the doctor telling you he can't find anything wrong and just numbing the pain.

I don't hope the doctor tells you something bad, but I hope he's able to find something, because obviously something's wrong. Best of luck man, get better and get back out on the course.

I was going to post about All GUNKed Up throwing both righty and lefty, but looks like he and Kwick beat me to it and then they started bickering and now we don't know which one will keep the kids.

That aside, it might not be bad to start throwing with your off arm. Watching GUNK throw a hefty righty on most holes and then slapping a solid lefty hyzer on a hole that everyone else is going to try to righty anny or try some half-ass flick is really something else.

Hopefully whatever you've got is something that can be corrected with some PT and anti-inflammatories. I was worried that they'd have to slice and dice my knee last fall but I was able to PT myself out of that.

Time out. No more throwing the disc. The more you play or try to play the longer it will eventually take to heel. Go see the doc, maybe get an xray and go from there. Good luck.

First off, sorry to hear that.. I have to struggle at times with lower back pain, when it goes out (which thankfully doesn't happen often) I'm a wreck for days

Play with the offhand, I wish I had the discipline to use my left more, but I've got some 250+ throws BH going lefty, I had more power lefty than I thought (which reminds you how much of the throw is technique vs. power).. My wife has shoulder problems at times and she'll throw lefty, sometimes I have a hard time telling which she used until the fade !

Aw man, that really sucks Bill!!! Lay off your left for a while (or as long as your Doc recommends) & if ya feel the urge... wing that Zephyr around righty. Whatever ya do, don't give up on the Women's clinics & such you have been doing!!! Get well soon man!!! In the meantime jam this song...

That sucks bad dude, I effed up my shoulder last August and I'm just now getting to where I can reach 300' and not be in horrible pain after playing 18. Its been a long hard road and you're right about not using it, I had mine strapped in the same position for months and it was the roughest thing I've ever been through. X-ray -> MRI -> "The Needle Test." Muscle relaxers seem to help me a lot more than pain pills as I can totally relax and if I feel pain know that I'm overexerting myself.

I was out 6 months. I was a little sore and took a LT and played on. Thing is, I was making it worse every time that I threw. I couldn't feel it until the next morning when the LT wore off.:doh::wall: I then started my 6 month jonesapaloosa and started checking out the thread section of this site, where all the hardcore addicts hang out. Mostly a bunch of weirdos.:D

Sorry to hear that buddy! I saw your post on FB and wondered what was happening. Rest up, get exert advice, keep us updated, and heal quickly and fully!

Sorry to hear. I know personally that taking time off sucks fiercely--especially when the weather is perfect. But you will be back at it in due time.

start throwin minis with that other arm!

disc golf is like crack. i get worked up at night cuz i wanna go out and throw but there arent any lit fields or anything.

I threw horribly left handed for the 9 months I was out. I couldnt throw for **** and even that hurt but I got out to the course every once in a while and played with friends. Sucks when your major hobby and source of exercise and socialization gets taken away from you. Not saying I live disc golf but the 18 holes I play almost every afternoon after work really is a big part of my happiness. Fresh air and activity are vital. Try and keep something up if you cant play, maybe just walk the course with your buds.

I caddied for my wife today on a 27 hole, 14000' course...THAT sucked!! Man that damn bag got heavy after about 20 holes!! It was fun watching them all play and I got to record it which was neat too.

I think I can live vicariously through her for a bit.

One thing I noticed, which is another reason I feel it is tendon related, if I put my arm like a chicken wing I can fully extend up with little pain, but with arm outstretched it hurts like an SOB at shoulder level...seems if it was shoulder it would hurt equally at all times?

My arm would dislocate itself and I'd have to put my arm out straight and then lift up to get it to go back in socket. I'm hoping its just tendonitis for you.
