Explain please? I'm 65 and never heard of this problem...don't want to get blind-sided with some age related nuisance....I ain't ready for all that...

Plantar fasciitis is an inflammation of the fibrous tissue (plantar fascia) along the bottom of your foot that connects your heel bone to your toes. Plantar fasciitis can cause intense heel pain. Plantar fasciitis (PLAN-tur fas-e-I-tis) is one of the most common causes of heel pain.

What to Know About Plantar Fasciitis

having proper arch support will help you not get it along with maintaining a healthy weight. you will know when you have it, trust me. it's not age, its the amount of abuse you subject your feet to.
Ach so....that makes sense...also explains why I haven't encountered this...I fit the bill for not being eligible for this accursed medical condition...thanks for straightening me out...Muchismos Gracias!

YIKES! Thanks for the info!

one of the most important things i learned while dealing with this condition was NOT using a cushioned heel support. a proper arch support takes the wear and tear off your heel and spreads it more evenly across the entire bottom of your foot. of course YMMV . i ruined my feet in a machine shop setting up and running grinders for toolmaking for over 25 years. according to the specialists i saw (workmans comp) it was the standing on concrete in heavy shoes/boots 60 hrs a week and not all the hiking/walking i did that really aggravated it. ultimately it was the proper insoles and losing (most of) the beer gut that made me syptom free.

I can't remember where I read about somebody on DGCR using turmeric instead of ibuprofen, figured it might have been in this "old farts" thread. I wanted to thank whoever that was. I'm on week #9 of a teaspoon of regular turmeric from the spice rack and ground up black pepper over the top of it in my daily bowl of oatmeal. The first 6 weeks or so I didn't notice anything, but now for sure I've had a couple of really good weeks of not much hip pain. I went straight from here to Johns Hopkins' website and followed their recommendations. They mentioned it takes awhile for it to do its magic, like 4-8 weeks. I'm at work doing my warehouse-lite job that I do and lately have forgotten that I have a problem. It's better in the mornings, and no, it's not quite as good as Ibuprofen, but I like the fewer risks associated with this. I'll update if anything changes.

(I'm only 50, but I was a HS baseball catcher and this hip bothered me starting back in HS, gradually getting worse and worse.)

So how is everyone doing with their Plantar Fasciitis?

Plantar fasciitis set me back for months and months. Fortunately mine has been good for the last couple-three years. I do limit my playing to two 18s and a 9 (or equivalent) per day. But also see below.

It has really slowed me down for the last five months. I've switched most of my shoes to zero drop with wide toe boxes... and working on a couple of exercises to strengthen the muscles in the bottom of my foot and the calf...

For me, Kuru shoes were a game-changer. They have a softer padded spot under the heel that just works for me. The soft padded spot wears out fairly quickly but I'm OK with that.

Before Kurus I tried all sorts of inserts, even a custom-made insole, but none worked.

Slowly improving, but man.... it is a pain.. in the foot. Real.

Yeah plantar fasciitis recovery takes months. Exercises, stretching, rolling on the tendon, etc. I found rolling my foot on a frozen water bottle after playing to be quite helpful. Good luck!

i'm going to look into this as i don't take ibuprofin or other OTC pain relievers since i am on a aspirin regimine for my heart. thanks for the tip!

I cannot emphasize the bolded above enough. It will not just go away quickly, the tendons are used too often. I have had great success with Motrin and icing my feet after rounds or long periods of standing. But, the solution is shoes, weight loss and taking care of your feet.

I like the rubz balls, doesn't seem like it would help but it does help my sore feet. View attachment 331346They are inexpensive and readily available
Can you freeze these? Can you throw them in a cooler full of beer and ice? They might be nice to have right after a round. Cooling down, practicing medically approved re-hydration protocols.

I had PF in both feet really bad in my 20's. Those first few steps out of bed were agonizing. It went away after I got sleeves for my feet to pull my arches up and inserts for my shoes for support. I was in incredible shape playing Ultimate almost every day. It was just one of those things,,,

You could, they are hard rubber but if you want to cool your feet dunk them in the cooler with your beer.
I doubt the balls would hold cold temperatures long but I don't think they will be harmed by the cold.

That would be a funny couple of sentences to encounter at a campfire-type event or something but only hearing that part. The struggle with old guys' balls is real!

Well.....dunking my feet in the cooler, has always been a frowned upon rehydration activity. Especially by the slackers I play with, drinking out of my stash of Oberon. :ROFLMAO: :ROFLMAO: ..........................................................................................hmmmmmmm, wait....maybe not such bad idea?

One thing though, approaching my 44th bday this july and luckily I am not having these "ball issues" ( yet, I guess I should say yet lol ). Maybe it is because I am at a higher elevation
I didn't really start to feel the getting old thing until 45 hit. It's five years later now and I'm on another getting older gear past that for sure. It's happening fast.

So...You've got a year left! Live it up!
