Please put phone # on disc!

PDGA number is just a guaranteed unique marking, which is required by the rules for PDGA sanctioned play.

Okay... should be a guaranteed unique marking... until you play with some jackhole who writes your PDGA number on his disc.

If there's no number on it, that really does make it hard to find them. If you want to go the extra mile, though, you might post on a local club's forum, and see if you get a bite. In this case, though, it's probably not important to the guy if he didn't bother to put contact info. on his disc. I put my phone # and email address on all of my discs immediately after I buy them. Not that anyone ever contacts me anyway...

ditto.

if you don't put your # on your disc, you shouldn't expect it back.

however, people who don't make an attempt to return discs with contact info on them should have their entire bag ganked at some point.

I only put my email address on my discs. Phones are sort of rude by nature; they demand your immediate attention and interrupt what you're doing.

Not only that, but I found roughly a dozen discs over the past week's thaw. Calling all those people was time consuming, and a few of them had no desire to collect their disc anyway.

I found some kind of Innova in the creek (right next to where mine landed) that must have been there forever cause all the writing was rubbed off and I actually have no idea what type of driver it is. I could make out some kind of faded initials on the back and that was it. But I would just like to thank whoever didn't write their number on the back of that disc because I was actually able to throw it as far as my Boss and keep it on a straighter line. It's actually the exact type of disc I was wanting to buy. Thanks!

I have my number on some of my discs I dont on most of them, I ussually just order a replacement when I get home from losing it so even if they were to call it would be too late for me in most cases.

I put my phone number and email address on all my discs. I've probably have had about a 60% return rate on all my lost discs. In every case, I was notified by email. A few people commented that its easier for them to send an email then call someone.

No, they did not steal it, they found it. There is no law requiring them call, etiquette and karma yes, but it is not stealing.

Okay true, it is not stealing. But I am with you that with the etiquette and karma rule, I would think the shop would try and get it back to you first.

I kinda want to find another place to get discs because this honestly pisses me off a bit, but there aren't any better selections in town.

thats not true, at least around here. Finding something does not make it yours. you have to report it to the police and then after taking certain steps, and a certain amount of time passes if no owner comes forth then and only then do you own it. Anything prior is just theft.

I was wondering what/who exactly is Karma and how does it/he/she have anything do with you finding/getting a lost disc back?

Karma is lady lucks cousin. Just not as slutty.

Any a-hole can get lucky, but Karma only hangs with guys/chicks (yeah she gets down like that) that arent a total douche.

One of my aces was a gift from karma. I found a disc with the name of a store nearby that sells discs. I went to the store and the owner knew whose disc it was and thanked me. I bought a disc while I was there, went back out to play another round and got an ace with the disc I just purchased. Thanks karma!

Hopefully you're just a smartass, but if not...

Not being a smart ass but i just do not believe in karma. I think it's hilarious that people believe that if they do good then it will magically be returned to them. I return discs to people i know or people i know have done work on our local courses. i used to call everytime i found someones disc but have never had one of my discs returned to me. So i stopped. When i receive my first call about one of my discs i will start to call but untill then every disc i find goes to either my brothers, nephew or son.

You said you didnt believe in Karma and then almost defined it. By your own admitance if someone does you a kindness your going to pass that on to someone else.

Unfortunaly your terrible attitude about keeping peoples disc will prob hurt you in the end, but maybe one day youll figure it out.

Karma isnt magic, infact its common sense. As you said you return disc to people you know work at the course. So therefore for those people working on the park and putting in hardwork they are already recieving good Karma, because you will give them there disc back if you find them.

No that's not what i said. What i said was that if i knew someone or if i knew that they had done good in the disc golf community that i would return it. I never said anything about passing on what others have accomplished in my eyes to someone else. I am not a socialist/communism disc golf player. i dont "spread the wealth around"

don't worry i have figured it out.

oh and how will my terrible attitude hurt me in the end?

If you have established yourself as someone who keeps other peoples' lost discs what makes you think people are going to want to return yours to you?

The downside of e-mail only is that most people will not e-mail you while they're on the course just after finding your disc. And if they do you may not read it 'til you get home. So you're almost guaranteed to need a meet-up later.

If you have a phone number listed then you might get a call while you're still on the course. I once found a disc sitting in the basket. I called the guy who forgot it there and he came back a couple holes to get it since he was still playing.
