Stance Question

I often see players in tournaments using a disc or towel to kneel on while sticking one leg under an obstacle to avoid moving it. It's just another part of the game.

I don't get what you are trying to say here. using a disc or towel to kneel on is legal. Maybe I missed something.

While extending a leg under an obstacle (to have a foot behind the mark,) players will kneel on the disc or towel to avoid hurting their knee. Perfectly legal.
The discussion was about whether or not a player could back in to a bush or tree to keep branches out of the way. They cannot, therefore, the above solution.
