I was curious as to why all of us come here.....and I felt like killing some time, so I did some analysis on the posting data here.

For each Forum & Sub Forum I added up the number of Replies & Views from the first page showing (omitted the sticky announcement) and this is what I came up with. Red is top of category and Blue is bottom:

The Sub-Forum that blew me away was the Disc Dying - not a ton of posts, but 3 most views....and by far the most "Views per Reply"....which means a ton of people stop by just to read and/or look.

I was also encouraged that my favorite area (Course Design), while it only has 1/10th the posts of the popular threads, it seems to be pretty well read by observers (non-posters). This is good since IMO that is the single most important topic for a site that is supposed to be about reviewing disc golf courses.

yep....this saddens me
when I began on this website I was looking forward to lively discussions regarding course design and courses in general (based on the title)
But course discussions are generally the same handful of us.....depressing that no one on a course review site cares about course discussions

Disc Dyeing is full of quick exchanges between dyers..almost like a chat..driving up post counts

other topics are generally more well thought out

and yeah people love to look at dyes I guess

I dunno....while I wish it were a better attended area, it has a pretty high amount of Views and a very high "View per Reply" ratio. So, it appears that a fair amount of people are following along with the discussion. It could well be that one person (me) posts so much in a know-it-all sort of way that it scares people off from chiming in. :wall:

I actually think most people's only interest in design is the 3 seconds after they hit a tree or landed in a creek and then they bitch about the design....apparently after that they discuss how they have to retrieve that cool dyed disc

I come here because after the sun goes down and I'm bored with throwing putts, I still have disc golf on my mind. Last few weeks have pretty much been wake up, golf 'till sunset, throw some putts, BS on DG forums until I feel sleepy, then repeat. I'm obsessed.

I will talk course design any day of the week . . . just send me a message

I wouldn't have to say "Nice Dye" if I could just click 'Like'.
ohwai... this isn't FB.

I'm not surprised that the dye forum gets as many views. I love to look at 'em.

based on the number of landfill replies and posts per topic, i'm guessing that people are coming here for the lulz.

The reason the course design area may have the stats shown is fewer people may feel comfortable posting and having to potentially take a position and possibly defend their point of view. The fact the views per post is pretty high would indicate solid interest in the topics though.

To some extent, this is why I'm here. Granted, I never really have truly "good" input on any thread here but I try sometimes. It's just a good solid place to waste time talking and reading about things that interest me.
As far as course design, everybody has their own opinions on whats good and whats not. There are a lot of good players on here and there are a lot of players that are "up and coming". So the opinions vary a LOT. So sometimes it's hard to get involved in a deep discussion with a player thats been playing 15yrs with 20 something courses played vs a player thats been playing 5yrs with 300 courses played. It's 2 completely different levels of experience. That are VERY opinionated.

I really got active on the site because of the course directory and reviews, so that's still probably the section of the forums I read the most.
