Pros:
Boylan Acres Extreme is not for the feint of heart. Every hole features elevation, and while it's not quite as breathtaking as Colorado there is plenty of beauty to be found in the ravines and rolling hills of southwestern Indiana.
The elevation here bears repeating. You'll throw up, down, and over various ravines and slopes. Needless to say if you enjoy long, treacherous hikes this is the course for you. There are hand-cut stairs in the dirt to help you up and down, and some makeshift benches to sit and take a well earned rest.
The majority of holes have a short and long tee, and the signs imply there are multiple pin locations. The pads are the standard concrete hog slats endemic to the region and function just fine.
There's a good mix of long and technical holes, and even a few that could be described as both. This is not a beginner's track by any stretch of the imagination. It's kind of like a gruff baseball coach - tough but fair.
Cons:
This course could double as a physical fitness test for the Army Rangers. I kind of scoffed when I had to sign a waiver but I completely understood by the time I was dragging my tail up t that last hill on 18. If you have any cardiac or mobility issues I would urge you to consult your physician before undertaking this adventure.
I could imagine the rough would be replete with thorns and poison ivy during the warmer months. It would also be easy to lost a disc to a bad tree kick when the rough grows in.
More of a humorous anecdote than an actual complaint - but I'm guessing Mr. Boylan uses hole 3s basket for putting practice since there was a dozen or so Rhynos strewn about. It wouldn't be a big deal but hole 3 is 385 foot with a big elevation drop so come in too hot and you could bounce right off his putter straight OB! At least the nearby goats would have something to talk about.
Other Thoughts:
It costs 10 dollars to play all day and that includes access to Boylan Acres Arduous and the pitch-and-putt Boylan Acres Fun Course - all located on the same property.
There's a nice little pro shop on site as well. I didn't think to inquire about bathrooms.
There was a bunch of old 1950s Ford cars and trucks stacked on top of each other and just rotting in the woods just past the property line by hole 8. They shouldn't really come in to play but thought it was note worthy.
To sum it up this track will challenge your disc golf skills as well as your physical and mental stamina. There's worse ways to burn calories that's for sure
