This Course NEEDS a Review

Reviewed: Played on:Jun 10, 2024 Played the course:once

Pros:

- A technical (trees in the fairways) course with several holes offering multiple lines down the fairway. There is a mix of wide fairways and tunnel shots. The only 'open' shots are the water carry holes of 17 & 18.
- There is a long Blue and short White layout dictated by either multiple tee pads or baskets.
- Great tee pads made in level boxes with 'paver' stones about 9 ft. x 5 ft.
- Good use of rock formations with a couple baskets mounted in rocks. This seems to be a staple of southern CT courses and I love it. Also a couple rocky fairways to throw over.
- The rough is often forgiving which is great for a new course.
- Saw very little Virginia Creeper or poison ivy.
- Signage is good from tee signs to tee pad directions.
- The white and white with blue stripe baskets are colorful enough to find through the trees.
- All baskets seemed to have next tee arrows, though I honestly was not taking notes.
- Mostly good use of elevation change. One small gripe listed in the Cons.
- Disc golf course is away from most other park activities but there are some hiking trails to be aware of.
- Parking away from the road.
- Compost toilet near parking lot.
- Course sign on the way to the first tee from the parking lot.
- There is a practice basket near the parking.
- Wide plank benches found on most every hole except 18.
- Holes 17 and 18 have well marked drop zones using 2 ft. high posts with white paint at the top.
- A very clean course. I did not notice a trash can because I found no trash to throw away.

Cons:

- The dark blue baskets were often difficult to see at a distance.
- There's a long walk downhill between a couple holes (think it was 14 & 15) on the back 9 that seems like a waste of a great 'top of the world' toss.
- The fairways are not fully worn in yet but are pretty good for a new course.

Other Thoughts:

- I had not intended on reviewing this course when I went to play but when I came to mark it as played I felt it was far too good to not have a review so I hope you find it helpful.
- A few comments on some of the holes I remember,
o In the middle of the front nine is a valley hole. I find great satisfaction in getting across these types of holes though I didn't quite make this one.
o Hole 16 fairway drops down to a raised basket just shy of the pond.
o Hole 17 & 18 are water carries across the pond.
o Hole 18 is an island green.
- The front 9 had a very good flow. The walks between basket and tee pad seemed short or a bit longer to avoid back 9 holes. The back 9 seemed less flowing, more walking between holes, from 11 to 16 which may be all about the long walk mentioned in the Cons.
- I'm rating this course a 3.5 but could see were others may find it a 4.0. Two issues swayed me to my score, I'm not fond of water carries where I can lose a disc and was bothered by walking down a hill without a disc in play. To be fair I do like the look of the water carries, not unreachable (I believe both < 190 ft.) and will return with discs to donate on these holes.
- I only played the long layout but am looking forward to getting back to play the short layout.
- I hope you enjoy this course as I have. The group working on this course have done great work.
- At least one video can be found on YouTube.
